## Description

Product Description Not to be confused with the 1980s slasher films (though of course meant to be confused with the 1980s slasher films), this spooky series gets it's start when an antiques dealer makes a deal with the devil to sell cursed relics. When the dealer backs out of the pact and dies, his niece Micki (Louise Robey), her cousin Ryan (John D. LeMay), and ex-magician Jack Marshak (Chris Wiggins) join forces to track down the evil wares before they do harm. Usually they're too late and must pry the objects out of the hands of owners addicted to their homicidal dolls, wish-granting pens, and killer teacups. This collection presents the second season of the gruesome horror series, which introduces a new team member, girl crazy Johnny Ventura (Steve Monarque). Starring Chris Wiggins, John D. LeMay, Louise Robey, Steve Monarque Special Features: Multi-Disc Set Full Frame, 1.33 Audio: Stereo English Running Time 1181 Minutes. desertcart.com Here's something to scream about: Friday the 13th's second season is even better than the first, with more hell to pay as Micki (Robey) and Ryan (John D. LeMay), proprietors of the Curious Goods antiquities shop, race against time to reclaim the cursed objects sold to an unsuspecting public by their late Uncle Jack. The macabre fun of this Canadian horror anthology series--related to the slasher film franchise in name only--is that it cloaks even the most innocent objects with a palpable sense of dread. In "And Now the News," an unscrupulous doctor uses an old radio to scare sanitarium patients to death. In "The Playhouse," abused siblings placate their sanctuary by sacrificing neighborhood children to it. In "Read My Lips," a boutonniere brings a ventriloquist's dummy to knife-wielding life. This is one of the season's best episodes, with scary Billy Drago (Frank Nitti in Brian DePalma's The Untouchables) as the obsessed ventriloquist, and the great John Byner as a struggling entertainer, whose own dummy gives new meaning to the show business cliché, "Death is easy, comedy is hard." The episode, "Wedding Bell Blues" introduces Steve Monarque as the streetwise, cocksure Johnny Ventura, whom Ryan recruits to help locate a cursed billiards cue that racks up several murders while giving its owner wicked skills at pool (which starts with P and that rhymes with T and that stands for terror). Johnny returns in "The Prisoner," in which he is falsely convicted of killing his father. He will be become a series regular in the show's third, and final, season. A series benchmark is "Tails I Win, Heads You Die," in which Micki falls victim to a coin used by a Satanic cult leader in a plot to resurrect mummified witches. With its compelling stories, grislier violence, and quality kills, Friday the 13th's sophomore season elevated a guilty pleasure into a superior creepshow. --Donald Liebenson

Review: Excellent TV from North of the border... - I used to watch this show weekly when I wasn't doing anything more important and I enjoyed it quite a lot. With the lack of quality programming nowdays this has become a classic. Chris Wiggins reminds me so much of Donald Pleasence...either of those two could have played Jack Marshack, and either could have played Dr. Loomis (Halloween). I might be getting off-track here, but let me say that I consider Louise Robey to be quite a beautiful woman. I cannot imagine any other female taking her place in this program. The director may have gone a bit overboard with some of Robey's outfits in the first season, but that didn't detract from her beauty; and in the second season the outfits were all very tasteful. I won't list favorite episodes since I consider all of them to be great and I don't want to detract from the entire package. I have bought the first two seasons already and I hope the third season is also released since the only other way of getting it is to buy the whole set from the bootleggers. I don't want to rebuy seasons one and two just to get season three.
Review: killer series - Glad this is available on dvd finally. And i don't think the dark quality a number of you have a problem with was a duplication error. Such a dark, uneven tone was one of the things i enjoyed about the series; it set the mood and made many an 80's Sat. morning deliciously creepy... a fun addition to the frivolity of the time. The other great thing about the series is the detail. From set decoration to smallest character, that attention to nuance, even of otherwise over the top characters, allows you to develop empathy for each one and care about the story. That's a skill current filmmakers, especially American, could do well to emulate. There was also some really good performances and character development from many really good actors! I'm thankful Mancusso made as many sordid, joyful little yarns for me to revisit as he did :)
