## Description

Product Description From the director--Join my hiking partners and me as we begin hiking in the Grand Canyon for the first time. We fumble (and sometimes stumble) down the dusty scenic trails while discovering the magnificent wonders of the canyon. Originally, we had all planned for that first hike to be our only trip to the bottom, but that is not the way things worked out. We are all obsessed with the canyon and have returned again and again. We think you will feel the same way.Explore the Bright Angel Trail down to the Colorado River and Phantom Ranch. If you are adventurous, take the steep and dry South Kaibab Trail. For the most awe inspiring views from the main trails, creep along the towering cliffs of the North Kaibab Trail. Learn about permits, techniques and skills that you need to camp in the inner canyon. Find out what to expect when you reach Indian Garden, Bright Angel and Cottonwood campgrounds. Take side trips from the main trails to sites that many people never see. Get a closeup view of the plants and animals that live in the bottom of canyon--some of them unique to the area. Experience the solitude and clear beauty of the North Rim in winter. You may be the only person camping on the North Rim! Most of all, learn how to be safe and enjoy your experience hiking and backpacking in the Grand Canyon. I have seen a few videos that try to cover backpacking here, but this is the first video I have seen that I truly feel covers all three of the main Corridor trails (Bright Angel, South Kaibab and the North Kaibab) in such wonderful detail and in such beautiful visual quality. --Hit The TrailI enjoyed your production very much-it's a quality product, one I would be happy to recommend to anyone thinking about a Canyon hike. It is engaging, interesting and informative. You have obviously done your research and have put together all the required information a prospective Canyon hiker would need into a wonderfully approachable package. You have a solid, high quality product to offer Canyon hikers that will, without doubt, do them a lot of good as they plan that first step below the rim. Great Job! --Retired Grand Canyon RangerThe narration is fun and informative and refrains from talking down to his viewers. You will love the humor and resilience of this trekking team. This film packs the Hike Safe message with Hike Smart tips and rolls them together with an abundance of great cinematography. --Grand Canyon Hiking Examiner

This DVD proves very useful for us as novice backpackers taking on the Grand Canyon. That is really who it is geared towards, but experienced hikers may gain some good tips here. The production of this tells me it was a labor of love for the producer but that really adds to the charm of it.Gary, thank you so very much for the tips you provided in this DVD. My wife and I did our first R2R hike a few weeks ago. The best tip: Taking regular breaks, taking the shoes off (lets them breathe and cool down while getting stuff out of the shoes), and putting them up while eating and drinking. That made a huge difference for us.We will be back. 2019 is the 100 year anniversary as a national park and I think we'll be there to revisit during that time!

    This is a great DVD.

This is a great DVD.. covers both the South Rim and North Rim. Great photography so you get a real idea of what to expect on your hike. Good information on preparation for backpacking the grand canyon. We hiked to the river and spent a few nights and hiked out. If we had seen this DVD before it would have been very helpful.. now for us this is good memory because we did not take enough pictures ( don't underestimate how exhausted you can get, even if you are in good shape). But it is truly a magnificent and very special place and a trip we will always cherish.

Entertaining and informative...a "must have" resource!

*by L***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 7, 2009*

As avid hikers, my wife and I are always looking for informative sources on new areas we would like to hike. This DVD is by far the best we've seen! It covers EVERYTHING you need to know. Permits, travel, accomodations, gear, safety, trails...all are covered in a very entertaining way. The scenes from the Canyon are magnificent and beautifully photographed, and the narration is casual and witty with plenty of anecdotes and personal views from several others who have also hiked the canyon. Even if you don't plan to hike but just have an interest in the Grand Canyon this is a great video to watch and will give you a much different perspective from the usual travel videos. If you're planning to hike the Canyon for the first time this is one of those "must have" resources. Along with the wealth of knowledge on the DVD, the producer's website has links to just about any Canyon related site you'd need and greatly expands your sources of information. Highly recommended!!
