The black matte leather feels smooth, dyed well and evenly with nice dark matte finish. The leather looks and feels genuine but I'm no expert. It is soft but sturdy to the touch. The stitching looks even and no ragged ends or messy spots. The metal hardware appears to be of good quality with no obvious seams or sharp edges. The attachment clips open and close well. The clip spring tension is not difficult, but not so easy that I will have to worry it might open and dump my bag on the ground. The clip opening was plenty to allow slipping the loops of my bag into them after removing the old strap. It looks like a high quality item and matches my purse/handbag well. I'm very happy with it so far. Mine arrived in shipping bubble envelope and item inside plastic bag, it was packaged sufficiently to keep it from getting dirty or damaged in shipping.
