## Description

Based on the popular Tough Solar model, G2310 introduced back in 2001, G-Shock introduces a new Solar Atomic version, the GW2310. Now updated with Multi-Band Atomic Timekeeping, it’s more powerful than ever while retaining the classic, utilitarian case shape of its predecessor for clean yet rugged styling. Innovative technology combines with classic sport styling to bring you the Casio Men's G-Shock Solar Atomic Watch. With helpful text lining the black resin bezel, it's easy to program handy functions like the stopwatch, countdown timer, five alarms, World Time with 31 time zones, and 12- and 24-hour formats. You'll love the convenient solar-powered battery, which can operate for up to 10 months on a full charge. A bright EL backlight automatically turns on with the movement of your wrist, and the round, black dial features clearly divided sub-dials with a wealth of information, including a day, date, and month display. With reliable shock resistant technology, a water resistant depth of 660 feet (200 meters), and the handy capacity to automatically receive official atomic time through a built-in antenna, this cutting-edge timepiece is perfect for the adventurous man. Please see page E-3 in the manual, here it states the watch would need approximately 5 minutes of exposure to bright sunlight coming in through a window and 8 hours of exposure to indoor fluorescent lighting. Please see page E-45 in the manual, the G-shock button should be pressed and held for a few seconds for the Auto EL function to be turned on. The auto light switch must be turned on ( indicated by the auto light switch-on indicator) for it to operate. Please see page E-72 in the manual for any trouble shooting instructions. Casio With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market. Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward.

Review: One of the best timekeepers I've ever had! - I bought this watch in Feb 2017, so it is nearing 9 years with me as of the writing of this review. Not much to add from what others have said here. It is kind of a Goldilocks of watches really; rugged, easy-read display, comfortable, water resistant, solar, atomic time keeping. After all of this it is affordable too? I have a hand me down Apple watch from my kiddo, and like this Casio better! The only complaint I have is that one of the retaining bands (it comes with 2) used to hold the strap slack in place gave out on me and the other is very worn. Replacement straps are not easy to find even on desertcart, and the authentic "Casio" replacement has few reviews and many are negative. I still give it five stars because I'm a fan of the company and because they have corrected this issue with most of their releases over the last decade.
Review: Superb watch with a child's strap - I purchased this G-Shock model for three primary reasons: 1) atomic timekeeping, 2) solar charging, and 3) readability. I have found over the years of owning G-Shocks that these are the three most important features to me. Atomic timekeeping means that this is a "set and forget it" timepiece. Solar charging means that I never have to open the watch to replace a battery, keeping it water-tight for the life of the watch. Finally, have you ever noticed how "busy" and crowded some of the G-Shock watch faces are? In some cases, it makes it really difficult for older (not ancient, mind you!) eyes to read the time at a quick glance. This model is a basic, no-nonsense EDC. It doesn't have an altimeter, heart rate monitor, GPS, thermometer, or whatever. The watch I wear doesn't really need those things because I think there are better specialized tools for those jobs anyway. It does have the tools I do need in a watch though like a stopwatch, timer, alarm, day/date, back lighting, military time display, and world time. If you need more in terms of lap timers for swimming and fitness training activities, there may be better options for that. Otherwise, this is a tremendous watch. The atomic function works flawlessly. It actually works while on my wrist. I was up late gaming with one of my sons and I noticed that it was setting the time while I was playing on the PS4! My atomic watches in the past were much more finicky. Those things had to be placed in a particular spot in the house, pointing in a particular direction, the voodoo witch doctor had to shake a chicken foot over it, and then maybe it would pick up the signal. Not anymore! When I received the watch from desertcart, it was completely dead with no charge at all. It appeared to have come directly from the manufacturer and had not been out on display or anything like that. It took a couple of days (it's winter time and cloudy up north right now), but now it's good and charged up. Be advised that it can take a little time to get charged to the "High" level, but once there, these watches tend to hold the charge for a long time with the power save feature active. Give it a good bit of sunshine once every few months and you'll never have a problem. The readability on this watch is excellent. Casio did a nice job of keeping the view uncluttered. Many of the G-Shocks suffer from lots of "stuff" on their faces. The older models suffer from the three-eye syndrome that shrinks the size of the useful information you want to see in lieu of useless little circles that nobody needs or cares about. This watch increases the size of the useful information and uses a white background to increase readability. The obvious thing about this watch, of course, is that it's a G-Shock. It is essentially the toughest mass produced watch in the world. Good luck killing it in the normal course of everyday wear. Among other things, I like to go snorkeling and skin diving on vacation, so this will be going with me for those activities with no worries. If these are good enough for Navy SEALS and law enforcement personnel, they're probably good enough for the rest of us. Go ahead and beat it up. It laughs at you for trying to take it down! I do have one small gripe about the watch, more specifically about the strap. Why does Casio insist on producing the world's toughest ADULT watch and then slap a child-sized strap on the thing? I am an averaged-sized, athletic male (6' 2", 230 lbs.). I have to wear the watch right at the end of the band, so it just barely fits. To be honest, I wish there were just a little more band poking through the holder. I worry about losing it. In short, the band could be longer and more robust. All in all, this is a great watch. Get it, charge it up with some intense sunlight, get it set up (it's easy to do, just read the instructions), and you're good to go.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have owned this watch for three weeks and have tried numerous times to get it to synch with Ft. Collins. Does anyone have a suggestion?**
A: First of all, be absolutely sure that you have set up the home location correctly. There are 6 different atomic time transmitters all over the world, and the watch picks the one to "listen for" by knowing what transmitter is closest. Just like trying to tune in a radio station in New York when you are located in Tokyo, it won't work. Second, set the time manually once, getting it at least correct to within 10 minutes or so. If it is 6 PM and you accidentally set the watch to 6 AM (been there, done that) the watch will not "listen" for the time broadcast at the proper time. These time transmitters operate at very low radio frequencies, and the radio signals don't carry very well during the day time. They are easiest to receive between midnight and about 5 AM local time. If either of those things are set wrong, automatic sync is almost guaranteed to fail, and correcting them might be all you need to succeed. If not, then the operation guide gives lots of tips on things to avoid and things to try. In my own experience, when I lived in a southern suburb of Minneapolis/St. Paul, my watch sync'ed almost every night even though I slept with it on my wrist. When I lived in San Antonio with high-voltage power lines running near my back yard, it almost never sync'ed unless I took it off overnight and placed it on a windowsill pointed towards Fort Collins. Yeah, San Antonio is slightly further from Fort Collins than Minneapolis is, but I'm pretty sure it was radio frequency noise from the high voltage power lines, because I moved to the top of a hill near Canyon Lake, Texas, about the same distance from Fort Collins as San Antonio, and now the watch syncs almost every night again while I wear it. If everything else fails, try to locate a ham radio operator who can bring over a radio that can "listen" for radio frequency interference noise (places in your house to avoid) and maybe even tune in the WWVB broadcast and find out where it is strongest. Good luck!

**Q: my watch arrived yesterday how does it set itself it has a blank screen?**
A: Depends if the battery has any charge or not.Click the G button to see if the watch can display. Then read the manual that came with the watch to figure out how to set the watch manually. In the manual, by default the watch will automatically try to set itself every hour for 6 hours starting at midnight. If it doesn't have a charge, and the screen doesn't display, leave the watch in the light for a while.

**Q: how large is this watch? I ordered a G-shock for Christmas and it was huge. Sent it back, want to make sure its is not one of the oversize ones**
A: This is NOT one of the gargantuan G-Shocks. 7 1/4 " wrist here and it fits very nicely. Not too big at all, some have complained that it's undersized! Not too big, not too small in my humble opinion.

**Q: I've read some people saying the band is too short and won't fit some wrist. Does anyone know the length of the band if this is in fact a problem.**
A: This band is noticeably shorter than any other of the multiple Casio G-Shocks I've owned. It fits well enough even on one of the lowest notches, but the excess band is too short, often popping out of the rubber loop. Quite frustrating- I'm looking for a standard, longer band.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ EXCELLENT!
*by R***S on January 13, 2016*

This watch is excellent. I have had several Casio watches in my life. Usually there are two things that go wrong: 1) the watch band breaks after about two years of medium to rugged use and 2). after two battery changes the watch is no longer fully waterproof (the face will fog up in the shower or heavy rain etc.). While I expect to have to replace the band in a couple or three years, the problem with loosing waterproof status will NOT be an issue because this is a solar watch. Wonderful. Also, the watch arrived beautifully packaged AND with the time and date set to my time zone. All I had to do is just put it on my arm. Great product and great service. One more really cool thing, the display will go into "sleep mode" when it is dark for more than an hour, but only between 10 PM and 6 AM. This saves power significantly. It will remain asleep until it receives light once more or any button is pressed. Really a well-designed watch. UPDATE! After a full year of having this watch I will add that it has worked perfectly. It sets itself via the atomic clock and stays fully charged with just my normal time outside walking or working in the garden. Best watch I have owned. UPDATE! Going on three years now and not a single issue. Great watch. UPDATE! 4 1/2 years after purchase, my watch works perfectly and I have only set it once since I bought it. Even the watch band is in great shape. Best watch I have owned.
