Wasn’t as hard as I thought, but you’ll need some sewing experience
I really enjoyed making Luna and some outfits for her. I had looked at this for a while, but decided I’d find it too hard. As we entered a new lockdown, I decided I’d give it a go as I wanted to make one for my friend’s daughter. A few things to bear in mind, they are designed to be decorative and not toys and they’re mostly designed to be hand sewn (my worst nightmare) However, I adapted it by using micro fleece rather than felt so she’s a bit more robust and much more huggable. And it was easy enough to work out how to machine sew her. I had to attach the arms and head by hand, but everything else was done by machine. There’s a great website that sells everything you need or you can easily use your own stash. I bought an extra kit online to make the red gingham dress. I think the book is easier to follow than the instructions that can be bought online. She was well received into her new home and though my attempt wasn’t perfect, I think she’s well loved. It took about 1/2 day to make Luna at my pace (I’d already cut her out) and I only used the quick unpick twice (actual miracle!) The red dress took me HOURS, but I’d never sewn any clothes before so I was a complete novice. Let’s hope it’s a few decades before she’s on the repair shop being put back together! I’m definitely going to have a bash at some others, I warn you, it’s quite addictive!

Au flair de la Luna
I have the original Luna Lapin book. It’s given me many hours of peace to sew Luna and her outfits and given many more hours of delight to my great-niece who treasures the end results. These are real heirloom pieces if made with quality materials and, while you don’t need to, you can go as far as employing couture techniques and finishes if you so desire. I was really pleased to be able to pre-order the second book, but slightly wary as I thought there might be a lot of repetition and that the quality may not be as good. This couldn’t have been further from the reality. This is another -if not even more- lovely book with lots of intricate and beautiful designs. The clothes are mini masterpieces and the variety of new animals inspirational. Having said that, this book would stand alone if you haven’t bought the first. It’s gorgeously illustrated, with plenty of guidance, instructions and helpful diagrams if you need them. I can’t complement enough the tasteful design and photos that have gone into making this book a pleasure to own and work from. You can really tell that hearts and souls have been poured into its production.

Clear instructions and all patterns included
Brought this as I had the Lunar lapin book. Nice clear instructions and all patterns included. The instructions say sew the animals by hand but I used my sewing machine for most of it and finished it off by hand. Obviously it would be much better to use a sewing machine for the clothes and this book has a good selection. Animals are easy enough to make. All in all a very nice book.

I love this book a d it's creations!
I loved the first book and now love the second. It is not ways the easiest to follow perhaps photographs instead of drawings would be better. If my own versions of the clothes ste anything to go by then you will get there in the end. Love luna lapin.

I received this gorgeous book a couple weeks ago, and have read it cover to cover....Im now IN LOVE with Luna & her friends!! As we speak, I am simultaneously sewing Luna & Clementine, but the holidays are slowing me down. Ill try to send a finished pic when im done. The instructions are SO CLEAR, the patterns (to be traced!!!) are the full doll's size.....& the most awesome part...is the added inclusion of patterns to make a beautiful tufted bed mattress; a gorgeous, yet simple bed quilt; an ADORABLE & cleverly made suitcase; clothes for each doll, and accessories. The author included beautiful, modern stories about Luna & her friends (this is no Peter Rabbit tale!). Ill be taking excellent care of this book, as I feel it is an heirloom. I chose NOT to use felt, so the dolls can be played with. I also chose to add 1/8" seam allowance & am using a machine to sew...im using minimal hand sewing. Im using white cotton for Luna, and a mottled orange, yellow, & brown fabric for Clementine....I want her to be an orange tabby cat. I also chose to use Luna's body for Clementine and traced the necessary adjustments at the shoulder and neck opening on my pattern. I liked Luna's floppy legs and bottom over Clementine's button-jointed legs & "flat" bottom. I'd say that a beginner CAN sew these patterns, if they understand going into this project that time and extra effort are involved in hand-sewing, and small pattern pcs. Read the book COMPLETELY before beginning, and review the patterns. All levels of sewists will find great satisfaction in making such a beautiful & unique doll.
