With the right blades, this is a honey of a saw.
I really like this saw and rechargeable system. Is it possible to love a saw? I have several tools that use the 20-volt batteries, including the 20-volt rotary hammer and 3 different chargers, as well as the 12-volt vehicle charger so I can recharge the compatible hand-held flashlight and flood light for road emergencies or anywhere I need to see in the dark. I carry them wherever I drive. One never knows. As with any saw, using a sharp blade appropriate for the material one is cutting is always the most important measure to ensure top performance. I have this saw paired with the premium 5Ah & 4Ah batteries and a selection of blades for different materials, some Dewalts and some Diablos (my favorite blades). It fully exceeds my expectations. It will cut all day and then some. It's light and extremely portable, and it tears through solid oak and maple like it's going through soft butter. There is a small "learning curve," as one becomes comfortable with the saw blade on the left side of the tool, as viewed from the operator's perspective. The corded saws I've always used have the blade on the right side, but it doesn't take long to adapt to this configuration. Without a doubt, this saw is my favorite power tool followed by the rotary hammer, which is a close second. The only (small) source of disappointment is that it's shipped without a rip fence. For the life of me, this seems rather cheap behavior on the part of DeWalt, a manufacturer of quality tools that usually doesn't cut corners in my experience. My guess is that it would probably only have cost DeWalt a few extra pennies to have included the rip fence with the tool rather than inconvenience customers with the necessity of purchasing it separately upon discovering this admittedly minor deficiency. The rip fence is available on Amazon for about thirteen dollars as I write, so that issue can be readily addressed. It seems odd, though, and the discovery of the absence of a rip fence in the package might lower the perception of value for some customers. With shipping charges and sales tax, it could easily add $15-20 to the total cost of the saw. Of course, if one does not intend to rip, one might elect to skip it, but that could be short-sighted. From my perspective, one never knows if the rip fence might be needed in the future and there could come a time when it may not be as readily available, so my choice was to make the purchase so as to have it on hand for any contingency. I'm so pleased with this saw that I'm thinking of purchasing the Dewalt 36-volt cordless saw as well. The 36-volt tool uses full-sized 7ยผ blades and has even more power than the 20-volt model, thus allowing one to cut thicker material, likely with even greater battery charge longevity, but I digress. To be clear, the reviewed model (20-volt) will meet the needs of the vast majority of those looking for a well-performing portable saw without the encumbrances presented by a cord and its not as heavy as the 36-volt model. I think there's some good news if I decide to purchase the larger model as well in that the rip fence appears to be interchangeable between the two saws, so that assuages the issue from my perspective. Anything I would add would be all good, however it should be obvious that I'm pleased to have made the purchase of this quality DeWalt product.

My opinion
Love it. Have a few Dewalt items. Used a friends saw & had to have one!! This was very affordable. The Price and size was perfect. This cuts 2x4 with ease. Easy & portable & cuts smoothly. The unit- as all of them pulls a lot of power so the battery does not have a long life-- FYI.. But long enough to do the project. Just keep another handy. Good product-- good price

Profesional Quality Skill Saw!!! (At a Great Price)
This skill saw is a great addition to DeWalts 20V Max line of tools. My first reaction after using this skill saw for a while, was just WOW, this thing is Amazing!!! The motor they use is smooth as silk, and powerful. I was hoping to wait till DeWalt incorporated there brushless motor into this skill saw. But I needed it, so I bought it. Man am I happy I did, I really LOVE this skill saw! This is a superb saw! It has all of the features and power of a Top Quality corded skill saw, and it's light weight, with the 4Ah & 5Ah batteries, it does the work of a heavy duty skill saw. I've been in construction since 1980, and have used most all light and heavy duty power tools. This Skill Saw ranks among the best I've used, in cordless saws. Just remember your blade choice is the most important factor in how effective this saw will perform. Please see my blade recommendation below. Others have commented on it's longevity with there batteries (1.5Ah & 2Ah batteries), regarding they drain fast. The smaller DeWalt batteries are going to drain faster. This skill saw is powerful, and puts a heavy load on the batteries. With this saw, you need the High Capacity 4Ah & 5Ah batteries (model 204 & 205) . This saw will work with any and all of DeWalts 20V Max batteries, but the lower capacity batteries aren't recommended. I only use DeWalts 4.0Ah and 5.0Ah batteries, and with those, I can use this skill saw all day long, with 1 battery lasting most of the day, and usually all of the day. Features: -This skill saw has a blade break, which is a very nice feature in any skill saw. As soon as you release the trigger, the break engages, and stops the blade from spinning within seconds. -This skill saw also directs the cut material away from the user, and away from your line of sight. -This skill saw has the ability to cut from a directly perpendicular (90 degrees), and also can cut up to a 50 degree angle. -This is a nice light weight skill saw, and that greatly cuts the fatigue you would feel from using a traditional skill saw, all day long. -This skill saw allows for a direct line of sight to the blade and working surface. This is much like the design of a worm drive saw (a Roofers Saw), the design of most all other skill saws have the motor and the blade on opposite sides, so the skill saw operator would need to look over the top of the saw, to see his work surface. This is Not the case with this DeWalt Skill Saw! -The front and the main handle has a rubber over mold, and this gives the operator a great and comfortable grip on the skill saw. This makes it safer, and easier to control. Blade choice is important! -This skill saw uses a standard 5/8ths inch arbor, which gives the owner a wide selection of blade choices. There is a LOT of new blades out today that use think kerf cuts. This means the width of the cut is very thin, usually about 1/16th of an inch thick. Just know that these are basically cheap, and throw away blades. You also need to know, the thinner the tooth, the faster it will dull. -Please see Blade recommendation below- This blade here: Vermont American 6-1/2-Inch 40T Smooth Cut Carbide Teeth Circular Saw Blade , is one of the best blades you can buy for this saw. It's an extremely high quality blade, and the same blades that I use professionally, every day. It can be resharpened many times before needing replacement. It's very sharp, and uses very high quality carbide teeth. I Very Highly recommend this saw blade! To end, this DeWalt skill saw is a Professional Quality skill saw, and will last you for many many years. Everything about this skill saw is very high quality, and built very well. Very Highly Recommended!!!

DeWalt DCS391B 20V MAX Circular Saw (Bare Tool) Review: A Solid, Reliable Cordless Option
The DeWalt DCS391B is a popular choice for contractors and DIY enthusiasts looking for a cordless circular saw that balances power, portability, and affordability. This "bare tool" version means it doesn't include a battery or charger, making it a great option for those already invested in the DeWalt 20V MAX battery system. Here's a breakdown: Pros: Good Power for Cordless: While it won't replace a corded saw for heavy-duty ripping all day long, the DCS391B offers impressive cutting power for most common tasks. It can handle 2x4s, plywood, and even thicker lumber with relative ease. Lightweight and Maneuverable: Compared to corded circular saws, and even some other cordless models, the DCS391B is relatively lightweight and easy to handle. This makes it less fatiguing to use for extended periods and more convenient for working in tight spaces or overhead. Durable Construction: DeWalt is known for its robust tools, and the DCS391B is no exception. It feels solid and well-built, suggesting it can withstand the rigors of job site use. Bevel Capacity: The saw can bevel up to 50 degrees, providing versatility for a variety of cuts. The bevel adjustment is relatively straightforward and secure. Blade Brake: A blade brake is a valuable safety feature that quickly stops the blade rotation after the trigger is released. This helps prevent accidental cuts and makes the saw safer to use. Compatibility with 20V MAX Platform: A major advantage of this tool is its compatibility with DeWalt's extensive 20V MAX battery system. If you already own DeWalt 20V MAX batteries and chargers, this is a cost-effective way to add a circular saw to your arsenal. Easy Blade Changes: The spindle lock makes blade changes quick and easy, minimizing downtime. Cons: Battery and Charger Not Included: As a "bare tool," the DCS391B doesn't come with a battery or charger. This is only a con if you don't already own DeWalt 20V MAX batteries. If you need to purchase these separately, it significantly increases the overall cost. Runtime Depends on Battery Size: The runtime you get will depend heavily on the amp-hour (Ah) rating of the battery you use. A smaller battery (e.g., 2.0Ah) will provide less runtime than a larger battery (e.g., 5.0Ah or higher). For demanding tasks, you'll want to invest in larger batteries. Not Ideal for Thick, Dense Materials: While it can handle most common lumber, the DCS391B might struggle with very thick, dense hardwood or treated lumber, especially for extended cuts. A corded saw is generally better suited for these applications. No LED Work Light: The lack of an integrated LED work light is a minor drawback, as it can make it more difficult to see the cut line in dimly lit areas. Dust Collection: Dust collection is minimal. Consider using a dust mask and eye protection. Who is it For? The DeWalt DCS391B is a great choice for: DIYers: Homeowners who need a reliable circular saw for occasional projects around the house. Contractors: Professionals who need a lightweight, portable circular saw for punch-list items, trim work, and general tasks. Existing DeWalt 20V MAX Users: Anyone who already owns DeWalt 20V MAX batteries and chargers and wants to expand their cordless tool collection. Overall: The DeWalt DCS391B is a solid, reliable cordless circular saw that offers a good balance of power, portability, and durability. While it has some limitations compared to corded models, its cordless convenience and compatibility with the DeWalt 20V MAX platform make it a worthwhile investment for many users. Just be sure to factor in the cost of a battery and charger if you don't already own them.

More power than I expected. Professional quality.
For years, I've resisted buying a cordless circular saw based on my experience with one 20 years ago, when they first came out. The old Makita system just didn't have the balls to last long enough for professional use. How times have changed.... I'm a part time home improvement carpenter, and have had my Dewalt 20vMAX cordless for about a month. I purchased the "Tool only" version, and added 2 of the new 5amp hour batteries to go with it. I went with "tool only" based on some reading here that the tools included in many combo deals are not the same as buying the tool only, and I know for sure that is true with this saw. I have used this on a few framing jobs, and mostly on interior trim work, cutting lots of 1x pine moulding and 5/4 pine too. We did a job with all PVC Azack trim, and it cuts that stuff like butter. Just today, I had to rip 16' of 1x6, and this saw never even slowed down. At the end of the job, I checked the battery life and it still showed full. This saw is nice and lightweight compared to a standard plug in 71/2" saw. Obviously, it won't cut as deep, but it easily cuts through 2x4. I would guess you could crosscut 100 2x4 studs or more before needing to swap batteries. It easily cuts 3/4" CDX plywood too. I find this saw very well balanced in my hand, and cutting a straight line is effortless. Working on a ladder is also much easier as it is lightweight compared to a full circular saw. Overall, I am very impressed with this, and it's now my go-to circular saw for most jobs. So much easier than stretching out a cord. NOTE: the blade supplied with the saw isn't very good, so get the Diablo http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008WQ2P/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to put on. PROS: lightweight and great balance for cutting Powerful enough to cut wet 2x4 fir studs Long lasting with 5AH batteries Well placed angle and depth adjustment locks Very accurate notch to show the left side of the blade All around sturdy and quality built CONS: Blade is on the left of motor (like a worm drive), might bother some people A secondary lockout button that must be pushed before you can pull the trigger; didn't bother me but bugs the hell out of my brother Tool only means just that: they don't even include the rip guide I wouldn't break this saw out in the morning when starting to frame an entire house or roof, but for paneling, small framing, moulding and plywood, this is a great option.
