Review: Chaco support in a good-looking sandal - The older I get, the more my search for shoes becomes about comfort. To me, with extremely high arches and feet that swell like sausages when the temperature goes above 65*F, "comfort" is defined as "arch support." There are only a few brands that I can count on to provide decent arch support: Mephisto, Naot, and Chaco. All three specialize in sandals, although Naot does make nice closed shoes for cool weather. In preparation for a trip that will involve a lot of walking, I looked for a pair of comfortable sandals. Mephistos are too expensive, and I have some good Naots but they are slightly wedged and I wanted a pair that was flatter. My Chacos are sublimely comfortable, but look very sporty and I wanted something that looked more like a non-hiking sandal. So I was delighted to find these Wayfarer sandals on the Chaco website. I searched everywhere for them but they aren't in the sporting-goods stores because they are leather and not designed as hikers. So I took a chance and ordered them from desertcart. (I never buy wearables on-line because I need to try everything on.) Lo and behold, they fit perfectly. PRO: - All leather, so they look a little more dressy than the usual Chacos. - The straps cross higher toward my toes, so I don't have a strap across my ankle, the part of my foot that swells the worst in warm weather. - The arch support is exactly what I've come to expect from Chaco. - The soles are flat, not wedged. - Sizes run true. CON: - Because they are all leather, they aren't as bouncy as the hikers with rubbery soles. - The leather is somewhat stiff, but I assume that they will soften over time. - You can't wade through puddles in them. - They have a buckle instead of a velcro closure. As my flexibility declines in inverse relation to my age, It gets harder to reach and manipulate a buckle. I assume that as the leather softens, I won't have to mess with the buckles. Overall, I love these shoes. They look unisex, which means that the straps are substantial in size. They fit beautifully. They support my picky arches as well as my Chaco hikers do. Review: Fashionable and Comfortable - Fit is true to size. I am an 8. The straps are a tad loose so I did have to wear on the 2nd to tightest hole and could have probably gone to the first. They’re incredibly comfortable and very cute. I received a LOT of compliments in the first few hours I wore them, and several people on Instagram asked for the information as well so they could also purchase. If you’re looking for a well made sandal that is comfortable and fashionable I don’t think you can go wrong with these.

Chaco support in a good-looking sandal

Fashionable and Comfortable

Mixed emotions
I was so excited to try these, as I’ve heard Chaco is an excellent brand with stellar quality. While these seem to be very well made, there a couple things preventing me from loving them. First, there are some sharp edges to the leather which make the straps uncomfortable. To be fair, I have really sensitive skin so this might be more apparent to me, but this could have been prevented easily if they had sealed the edges of the leather or used a softer leather that’s not so stiff. I have other genuine leather shoes that are wonderfully comfortable and soft with no sharp edges while still being durable. Second, the straps on the right shoe were quite a bit tighter than the left, making that shoe painfully uncomfortable 😕. At this price point, I think these kinds of issues shouldn’t be happening. I will say they seem sturdy and the arch support was amazing. It could be that I got a fluke pair. Update: I’ve now ordered multiple pairs of these in different colors of the same size, and the tight strap issue is definitely A quality control one, as it’s present in the other colors as well. You may just have to order more than one pair to get a good one 🙄🤦🏻♀️. I couldn’t find another comfortable walking shoe with good arch support, a thick sole and nice style, so I decided to deal with the hassle of ordering multiples for an upcoming trip. The issue of sharp edges seems to be whatever they use to seal the ends of the threads — glue or resin or something. Once you cut these off, the shoe is comfortable… hopefully the threads don’t unravel 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Perfect sandal if you need arch support.
I have tried hundreds of sandals and this is the best sandal I have ever owned. I need a LOT of arch support. I have an extremely high arch, high instep and wide feet. I got them at the end of the season and was looking forward to buying new ones in different colors when they came out again the next year. They were very good looking as well. Alas, Chacos quit making them and came out with some weird design to replace them which didn’t have the arch support either. Why don’t companies just stick with something that works? Why must they always change it? Chacos, please bring back this exact sandal with no changes whatsoever!!! We need a good, dressier sandal in addition to the Z line of sandals.

LOVE & PERFECT FIT
I ordered these because I need a sandal with arch support. My usual size is 8 and I ordered an 8. They fit perfect and the arch fit my arch in the right place. The width (W) is very roomy and I probably could have used M width. It is not sandal weather here so have not worn for a full day but I did slide them on and wore around the house. Comfortable. My small negative comment is that the ankle strap could be a little longer to make them easier to adjust.

Update-things are improving.
Update, after posting my previous review it occurred to me that I could contact customer service at Chaco directly to see if they would resolve the issue. I sent them a picture of the shoe and they immediately responded that they could replace the pair if I cut all the straps off of the current pair and send them the picture. They wanted to make sure that I took this pair out of circulation before they sent me a new pair. The replacements have already shipped and I will update if they are better than the originals. I’m so sad to be writing this review. I bought a pair of Chacos for my daughter two years ago and finally decided to get a pair for myself. I have only had them for two months and I’ve probably worn them about 15 times and they are tearing on one side. I’ve had Birkenstock’s for over 14 years that are still in great shape with no signs of stress. I thought these would be the same quality after seeing how well the nylon sandals have held up, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. They are comfortable if I don’t wear them for more than 3-4 hours, they are cute, and they fit as expected, however I am really disappointed in the quality. I had been considering a second style but I will have to pass now.

These are pretty sweet sandals.
I like these sandals a whole lot. They were comfortable right out of the box and they look dressy enough that I can wear them in a business casual work setting but dress down just as easy. Don't listen to the negative reviews comparing them to "original" Chacos. They are a completely different shoe! It's like being upset that Nike flip flops don't fit/function the same as their running shoes just because it's the same brand. I have a very average foot in terms of width and arch. Personally, I think they are as comfortable as the other Chacos I own. They scuff a little but most leather does. I use a little leather conditioner and it comes right out. I started receiving compliments on them the first day I wore them and they haven't stopped since.
