Very good quality mat.
I ordered this hitting strip hoping that it would be worth the ~$50 I paid for it. When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised by it's weight, and thickness. I've now several hundreds of balls off of it and feel that it is one of the best game-improvement purchases I've ever made. The mat came with one tee holder into which you push your own tee. It is the same size as the thickness of the mat, so that if, for example you have a 2-1/2" and you push it all the way down into the holder, it raises the ball height by 1" off the mat. You can adjust it up and down as needed, and it firmly holds the plastic tees I use. It rarely comes out of the holder, or changes settings, even after hitting driver a dozen times.I use the hitting strip in my yard to hit into a practice net and it really saves my yard.I made a 36"x48"x1-1/2" treated plywood platform and covered it with a rubber roofing walk pad so that my feet would be level with top of the mat. It's the perfect height platform. The mat has already paid for itself as compared to what I would have paid to hit balls at the local driving range. Plus, I can really work on my swing, set up a work station, use impact tape, video record, and take my time, all in the privacy of my back yard. I should have done this years ago!Update: a year and a half, and thousands of balls latter, this mat is still working GREAT. I've had days where my goal was to hit 350 balls a day, weeks of 1k plus, and the mat is still going strong. I can't see having to replace it for at least two or three more years. One thing to note is that I do keep it out of the sun, and since it is not very large it is easy to pick up. and put away.

Needs to be inset to make usage practical
While nice to hit off, the sheer height of this mat makes it impractical to hit off. You need to go with the full size mat that you can stand on (which is ridiculously expensive), or alternatively, dig a small hole in the ground to place it in / build some type of thing to stand to match the height and make sure that doesn't move when you swing (which is harder than you think and very hard to move once completed).

Nearly as good as grass.
Update 2-10-20: I moved. Dug up the previously buried mat and relocated it at new house. Except for the grass roots that had infiltrated the outermost 0.25", it looks brand new. I am back to get another one because my new yard gives me multiple angles. I have hit tens of thousands more shots, mostly irons, and this thing still holds a ball on a tee perfectly, grass still looks like new.Update 10-5-17: This thing has held up amazingly, would give 6 stars. I have hit literally tens of thousands of balls off it now, and it still performs like new. I actually dug a hole in my yard, and set it in the ground flush several months ago to hit into an outdoor net. It has shown no ill effects from being buried. Still stand by the old review below. I bought two when I bought this one, hardly used the other indoors. If this one ever wears out, I will simply replace. Best mat ever for the price. Buy it.(Old review below)Not as good as real grass but if the spectrum spans from real grass to the average driving range mat, this mat is 80% to grass. I have hit a thousand shots off the same 4 inch square piece of the mat to test wear and tear, and you can't tell where that patch is by looking. It is thick, and required me to make a platform to stand on.

Great product.
I purchased this to use with the Rukket Haack golf net. Both had good reviews here on Amazon. I wanted a mat to practice my form & club speed at home. On my first use of this product I made repeated hits with real golf balls off of it for several hours. I hit full swing long & short irons, fairway woods & driver off the tee shots, including some fat hits. The mat gave nice feedback through out & showed no signs of wear, no color or plastic transfer on any of the clubs I used. This mat is thick. My solution for this, we had a tree removed from the yard. Because of this there is a recessed area where this mat sat well in. I did get a little bit of movement from time to time, but no more than I have had with other ones I've used. This comes with two holes cut in it that accept a rubber holder (one is included) & it will hold a standard golf tee. The tee stayed put all thru the time I used it, only having to adjust tee height a bit. The mat I ordered shipped flat, so it arrived that way and has stayed that way, so far. I am happy with this purchase.

Truly outstanding mat!
I hit from the same spot each time because I drew lines on the mat for alignment and ball position purposes. I'm now convinced this mat is indestructible. I swing hard and make a big divot on the golf course, and unfortunately, hit if fat on occasion, yet I truly can't tell that any balls have been hit on this mat after having hit thousands of balls so far. I also very much like that this mat doesn't allow the club to bounce off the mat, which could give you false results. If you hit it fat, you will know it. I like it so much that I felt confident in ordering another one for another area. For what its worth, I got a decent 40" x 48" pallet for free and screwed down a 3/4 thick, 4' X 4' plywood on top. I then built up the stance area with more plywood, then a layer or two of outdoor carpet, until the stance area was the same height as the mat. I then framed the mat with narrow wood. This allows a reservoir like area on the plywood to hold the balls. I also waterproofed the whole thing with water-sealant. When not in use (it's outdoors), I keep a tarp over it (weighted down).

they raise my 4x4 hitting mat to the perfect level to align with this hitting strip
you may consider a little bigger size mat. But the function of this one is as advertised. Note that this mat is perhaps 1 in deeper than most hitting mats you can buy. In my case, I have a 4ft x 4ft mat that I was using. Putting this smaller mat adjacent to it makes this mat higher than level. I bought a couple of sets of the dense foam interlocking floor squares. stacked , they raise my 4x4 hitting mat to the perfect level to align with this hitting strip. The foam squares can run $20 - $25 for a package of 12 or 16. But, the full size mat like this mor than $200 ; so this seemed like a reasonable alternative.

WRONG ITEM
This is not the item l ordered. The golf mat l ordered was supposed to be 1.75" thick the mat that has been delivered is only 5/8" thick, this is more like a putting strip NOT a hitting strip where the pile should be thick enough to make a full shot through the ball
