How is it attached to the bar and can it be removed to clean it? Thanks** A: Hi, I'm Debra Ann, the inventor of The NEVERknead. The base is made of cast iron and it weighs nearly 20 pounds. I'm not sure what you mean by attaching "to the bar" - do you mean how do you clamp it to the tabletop? I recommend using either 2 long bolts and bolting it to your work surface, or a couple "C" clamps. You can use it without clamping or bolting, but for safety's sake, I recommend bolting it down. Another tip: use padded shelf liner or a rubber place mat underneath to prevent scooting around and prevent scratching the surface of your work table. Since I ordered mine with a color on it it did smell heavily of spray paint when I took it out of the box. The smell didn't go away for about a week so just keep that In mind if you are sensitive to the smell of spray paint. Also when I first started using it little black flakes were falling off into my clay.
