I have oxalate kidney stones and locating protein bars low in oxalates is a huge challenge because high oxalates are found in almonds and cashews and to a lesser degree in peanuts. Those ingredients are rampant in most protein bars. These Mezcla bars are the best I have found that fit my dietary needs. They are based a pea protein (a BIG pass for folks with pea protein allergies!). They taste excellent, are light but filling, are crunchy but they don't crumble easily, are reasonably priced and are within normal limits calorie count wise for protein bars. There are trace amounts of almonds in the Mezcla bars but that can be counteracted with small amounts of dietary calcium ingested at the same time as these bars. I use lactose free milk - 4-6 ounces. The calcium in the milk binds with the oxalates in the almonds in the GI tract and are expelled via the colon. Using this dietary calcium/oxalate binding process, oxalates are not absorbed into the bloodstream and won't accumulate in the kidneys. The protein bar companies, even one of the expensive high end "designer" versions pushed by a certain famous former plate head/ movie actor/ politician that are $4-$5 each are loaded with almonds, cashews and peanuts and that company refuses to post oxalate levels. More aggravating is that NONE of those "designer" companies have disclosed oxalate contents in their descriptions or via multiple direct inquiries from me. They don't answer, I won't buy.

my favorite protein bar AND they taste good! Thats a winner. They sub a meal at times. Food doesnt give me energy but these dont take my energy either. They are the right level of chewyness. I have yet to teste my blood sugar after eating one. I mainly use them hiking or when my stomach growls and these hold me over pretty good. For those that care, these dont make my stomack hurt and Im grain sensative. They dont make me gassy which crappy food does, so these arent in that category.

I am a vegan, and order these regularly. If you are on a low sugar diet, you will taste the touch of sweetness in these. These are great for a snack on the run!

The most recent box had a completely different texture, and I’m seeing reviews from two years ago that also mention an apparent recipe change. I’m not sure what to make of this. The bars I’ve had most regularly are definitely 5 stars. The most recent, I’d give 3. Mezcla: please go back to the chewier recipe!

The best flavor in my opinion! I tried the sampler and this was the winner. It satisfies the need for a sweet snack, and I love that it has protein and is only 170 calories. Still no idea how to pronounce Mezcla lol!
