OtterBox Commuter Series

Edit: I bought this case back in like 2016 had it for 4 years and it did deteriorate over time. Mostly the hard plastic started just cracking from wear and tear. I highly recommend though because after 4 years of abuse the thing that broke my phone was it getting run over by a car, and not from the lack of protection this case provided. The photos are from 2 years ago I would say that’s when it started to break down but it held up for another two years, and considering people don’t keep phones that long anymore I’m going to say that this a solid case. I’ll start with what I enjoy about the product... The Commuter case is sleek, slim and it fits in my pocket perfectly, unlike a lot of cases now a days including some of the other cases otter box puts out. To add to that note the slimness is deceiving, but in a good way, this is probably the most shock resistant slim case I’ve ever had. Most smaller cases that barely cover your phone leave room for the screen cracking when dropped. For a slim case that’s durable this can be rather cheap even compared to cases that do nothing but look pretty; So this is a perfect fit for anyone who doesn’t like the clunky cases but wants something durable. Now the dislikes... This product is not an all in one product, it isn’t dust proof, it isn’t water proof, and there is nothing covering the screen except for a little bit of a lip around the perimeter to absorb shock This isn’t a fancy case, it’s very straightforward and kinda basic. Like all otter box cases there isn’t much design to it, you can jazz up the color but be prepared to pay extra ESPECIALLY on amazon. (You’re looking at 10-20$ more for a specific color pattern.) These last few aren’t a big deal to me, but I’ll mention it anyways in case they’re deal breakers for someone else. (Side Note: These come from having this case over an extended period of time) First, like I said, this isn’t dust proof; be prepared to be confronted with gook and grime on your phone when taking it off, if you don’t clean it regularly that is. It’s not disgustingly bad but it is noticeable. Next, although the case looks easy and simple it can be rather hard to put on and take off. A lot of the time it feels like I might break my case just from taking it off, which luckily hasn’t happened. So if you’re looking for an easy to remove case this probably won’t be it, it’s a snug fitting case. Lastly, after years of use and being a fidgety person and constantly playing with the flaps for the charger port and aux cord, the small hard plastic part at the bottom left corner that rims the screen came off. I mostly blame myself for that rather than the actual case. It seems like there’s a lot of disklikes but trust me when I say this is a quality case, it might not be for everyone, but if it fits your needs than I highly suggest it. Ok, tl;dr: If you regularly put your phone in actual danger of falling into water or high falls onto concrete, you'll need a more secure case like the Otterbox Defender or Lifeproof, but if you're just regular clumsy, this case is perfect. I had an Otterbox Commuter for my iPhone before (that I got at the Verizon store), but I dropped it too many times and one of the corners broke off. Totally not the product's fault; I am a klutz and dropped it on asphalt over the course of months and months. Anyway, I replaced it with Speck Products CandyShell Card Case for iPhone 6/iPhone 6S Wallet Case - Black/Slate Grey that I found on clearance at Office Depot and I liked the connivence of having my student ID and debit card handy. The Speck case almost immediately got extremely scratched up. You might have guessed that I'm pretty hard on my phone, but this was ridiculous. For a product that's ordinarily similar in price to the Otterbox, it should be decently well made. I'm starting a new job and I didn't want my phone to look like crap, so I got a new Otterbox. I forgot how much I loved this case. It's sleek and keeps the profile of the phone very slim. It does a really nice job of keeping crud from getting stuck inside it. If you've ever put a cheap case on your phone, you know what I mean. I like the the ports have really secure covers, but that they're easy to get on and off, even if I have to plug my phone in when I'm driving. It would be nice if the silence switch had a cover, but it's not a dealbreaker. The case really does take a beating. I regularly drop my phone on all kinds of surfaces, and it never suffers damage. Oh and finally, It doesn't get scratched up! The textured plastic makes it easy to hold and prevents the case from looking shoddy.

I ordered this case right when the iPhone 6 came out in 2014. It was an understatement to say, I was extremely disappointed. The case did not fit properly, there was a huge lip that stuck out on top, the microphone hole didn't line up with the case and the headphone jack was only half covered. It was extremely shoddy workmanship and not something I expected from Otterbox. I promptly returned the case back to Amazon. Fast forward to 2016, I decided to give the commuter case another try and was pleasantly surprised to see that all the issues mentioned above had been addressed and the case fits perfectly and snugly. Thanks Otterbox. This is by far the best case on the market, in my opinion, as I believe that even the Defender series is way too bulky. This one does a great job of protecting the phone, without adding the huge bulk of the Defender. My only complaint would be more of a concern. I noticed that the rubber piece that is parallel to the bottom of the phone on the inside edge (under the home button) slowly warped and broke on the commuter case on my iPhone 5 and had to be replaced after 6 months. I hope this one doesn't have a similar issue.

These cases are one of the best cases out there. Never had a problem with them if they are genuinely otter-boxes. My original one lasted me for more than 2.5 years without issues. I still have it and just recently it started to break down, but that is 2.5 years of constant use and dropping it on the floor more than 10 times from my memory. iPhone 6 never had issues with it and it protects it very well. I noticed only a few times it was getting hot but that was because I was charging it near a window sill where there was sun shining directly on the phone (doh!). This product is good enough to spend my hard earned money on. Hope you get the same results.

even though its a commuter series (with the defender series being the ultimate case) - this case is sturdy and protects against N number of falls I've experienced so far with my phone. if you need to the phone to fit your pocket, the commuter series is good enough. worth the investment.
