It's a solid flagship for a great price at $999 or less
So my wife and I did tons of research on robots and watched all the vacuum wars videos and tracked all the prices of our top 3 or 4 that we might want and when this went on sale along with basically all the others we were watching for $999 we finally decided to jump on it. Let me just tell you, this thing is awesome. The short version of this review is we've had this for about 2 weeks at this point, I left basically all the settings stock and just turned on some of the optional features like floor direction mopping and auto reclean so that if it says the water is too dirty it'll mop again until it's clean and then the optional camera where it'll take a picture of what caused it to have to skip an area or was blocked and that is an amazing feature. Highly recommend this vacuum, our floors literally feel slicker/smoother, I never would've thought that just from a mop but they do it does an amazing job. We've also got a Dyson V12 slim with the green laser that litteraly shows any little thing on the floor and we ran the Dyson around the floor like some crime detectives with a black light and all the lights off and we found like maybe one or two little things... It's incredible. Ok now for the rest of it. Weve got 2 dogs and while the auto empty station isn't quiet by any means none of it bothers our dogs. The first couple times it ran our smaller dog was a little suspicious but he got over it after that. I have yet to see my power bill after having this so I guess that's something I can't comment on with the whole hot air drying the mop pads but I'd rather pay a little extra for electricity than have some stanky musty mop pads that defeat the whole purpose of the self care base station. It does go through some water though I must say, but the water tanks are nice and large unlike almost every coffee maker that has a tank too small, this certainly has some big tanks. Easy to open and close/take out and put back in. I kind of love that the doors to access everything like the water tanks and bag and mopping detergent stuff are all kind of hidden haha it just looks so clean and elegant. I especially love that you don't "have to" buy their floor cleaning detergent, there's a plastic container that you fill with whatever you want and it'll automatically add it to the robots water when it refills it. However a bottle of their stuff did come inside the box which was nice to get started, it also came with 2 bags which should last quite a long time. Something worth mentioning is while I love a good box that has just enough clearance to let what's inside slowly slip out, when it comes to heavy awkward items like the base station I'd be ok if they could like not do that cause having to hold the base station while someone else pulls the box off was quite the effort. Other options would be advised haha lay it down and pull it out onto the floor but be careful not to scratch it. The app is also another area where we have had no problems at all, the app is very good, little clunky at times and on my android phone at least it doesn't respond well to the swiping back guesture. So I've clicked many buttons trying to swipe back to the previous screen and now I just use the on screen controls like the X or back arrow on whatever screen I'm on. I integrated the vacuum with our Google smart home system which worked flawlessly. It runs every night and mapped the whole floor in a matter of like 5 minutes the first time it ran and since then it's just gotten better and more efficient. It takes pictures like I said earlier of anything that we may have left on the floor or shoes or cables or whatever but it still does its best to clean as close to them as possible which it does a great job at. I did have to tape down one cable to our powered recliner so that it wouldnt keep pushing it across the floor but that was minor and it was only that one cable cause it wouldn't lay flat, it always has been rather bendy and stiff so I can't really fault the vacuum for that one but now that it's taped down it has no problems. All in all so far I can't complain about this thing, it does everything it says it does and even fits under most our furniture which is always a neglected area for us haha

It just works. Really well.
I bought this after returning the horrible Roomba Combo 10. As bad as that product was, the Dreame is good. In all the ways the roomba failed, the Dreame excels. Some examples include: - Mapping is fast and accurate regardless of light - Mopping is effective, does not leave puddles, and most importantly, doesn't smell because the mop pad s get completely dry - Vacuuming is also substantially better than any other robot vacuum I’ve owned (two Roomba’s) - It's an order of magnitude quieter than the Roomba: to the point that you can run it at night without disturbing sleep. A nice touch: if your phone is in sleep mode, it won't empty the dust bin because it's the loudest operation - It’s very reliable - I’ve had exactly one failed vacuum session in the roughly month I’ve had it - it didn’t see a hanger on the floor which knocked off one of the magnetically attached mop heads. Once I put it back on, it resumed its business - The battery size is substantially better - it will finish our entire house with somewhere between one to two charges. It charges quickly as well - The obstacle avoidance is excellent if a little more conservative than I wish - it even tackled my office - There are little touches like using the camera to show videos / animated gifs of our pets as the Dreame encounters them while cleaning Is it perfect? no - the device and app were clearly not written by native-English speakers. Who knows where the map of my house is. All that said, even the skeptics in my family are now on board. It’s great and 100% worth it.

Multiple issues. Works OK but not great. -- IPHONE APP NOW BROKEN!
I'll say to begin with that I use this in a high-end garage that has tile floor. I got clean the floor each week, in a place where floors typically fairly dirty. Before cleaning, I use the leaf blower to clean debris as much as possible, then put the vacuum / mop to work. Issues I have: 1. The dust bin doesn't self-clean and gets full quickly -- I clean it after every vacuum. I thought it would self-empty the dust, but it does NOT do this. I believe most people will have to empty / clean the dust bin each time they run the vacuum. For reference, I have a different brand vacuum/mop for indoors, cleaning hair from two cats. The indoor unit captures more debris than the X40 does, so I don't think the floor it is cleaning is all that dirty. 2. The mop heads installation fails EVERY SINGLE TIME. I have it set to vacuum, then mop, and the thing errors out in the middle when it goes to install the mops. I have to do it manually. There is no "resume" function at this point, so I have to re-program the unit to mop with no vacuum -- having a "resume" would be better. All told, it takes 5-10 minutes to get the X40 to clean the floor, with half of that time 90 minutes after it stalls out (to manually install the mops). This is versus my expectation that it might be able to clean multiple times with no manual intervention -- not even close! Hence the 2-star rating. The floor ends up mostly clean, but a manual mop works better, and this is with the mop set to the wettest setting, and doing the deepest possible clean. So that is disappointing as well. If I had it to do over again, I'd either try another high-end mop/vacuum unit from another company, or just get a lower-end unit since the mop doesn't work that well. Would not buy this one again. EDIT: changing my review to 1-star. The app that I have stopped working, and without that the vacuum is useless to me. When I bring up the app, the screen comes up and is blank, I have not been able to fix this. There is no app update due, and if this is caused by Dreamhome servers being down, they have been down for 4+ hours. I'm going to try uninstalling & reinstalling the app. But for a $1200+ vacuum I should not have to be doing this!

Amazing flagship robotic mop and vacuum combo!
I researched robotic vacuum and mop combos for more than a month and took notes on each from several reviewers and found that the x40 beat the other flagships for what I needed in a combo robot. I’ve had the Dreame X40 for about five weeks now and have put it through all of the tests. It only took 10 or 15 minutes to map the house. The map was accurate. I only had to make a couple of adjustments. I set the app for it to clean the way I wanted it to, but have found that setting it on clean genius and letting it figure out the best way to clean my floors is my best option. It knows how to clean and senses when areas need extra cleaning. It is hands-down the best robotic vacuum and mop that I’ve ever used amd I’ve used other models for about ten years. Is it perfect ,no, but it’s close. I would say more than 95% of the time it does what it’s supposed to do. I set it and forget it. Occasionally, I have to check on it because the mop pads came off which is easy enough to remedy by setting a no go zone. I don’t even mind that because it does such a great job vacuuming and mopping my floors. The suction is good at 12,000 and even at its highest setting, is still very quiet. Most of the time, I forget it’s cleaning when I’m in another room and don’t hear it. I love how it cleans its mop pads as needed and remops areas or rooms, if needed. My wood floors, because of the buffing pads, have a beautiful shine. It cleans my ceramic floors without streaking like other robots have done in the past. It’s very important to keep the sensors clean so that it runs like it’s supposed to. In my case that’s about once every two weeks with it set to clean on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Would I recommend this robot to friends and family? You bet I would and have. My floors have never been cleaner. They pass the barefoot test!

(See Update 12/3/2024) -- Failures and Slow Service - Skip Dreame products in the US for now
We were initially very happy when I bought this item back in July, but it has since become a headache by October. In General: Navigation, obstacle avoidance, suction, and dock are very good, the small filter clogs quite a bit. It consumes way too much water when running cleanings back-to-back so it doesn't really track whether the mop pads are freshly cleaned or not and runs a complete mop washing routine right after it just cleaned them. We also wish that the side brush operated when cleaning carpets. The detergent tank is a nice feature and seems to work well. We have high pile rugs and it works well on them with the mop pads left back at the dock (an optional setting). The Main Issue: The Side brush sensor has a common failure issue where it will report that it is tangled even if it not. After countless emails with support then having to pack/mail it in, I got the unit back from the repair center in Texas -- it immediately failed again, so the issue was not resolved. It's been almost a month of back and forth and it's pretty obvious that they are dragging their feet now. Our family relies on dependable products that are usable and not out of service for weeks on end (especially given the price point). Service: I've been bounced around when clearly I just need a new unit so I'm not forced to wait another few weeks for a "repair" in the hopes that it will be right this time. Currently very disappointed and wishing I would have gone with a Roborock now. We may need to open a case with Amazon or Credit company since they are not honoring their warranty in a timely manner. I will definitely update this review if anything changes, but as for now I really can't recommend this unit or Dreame based on my personal experience. -------------------------------------------------------- Update 12/3/2024: So, it took about 22 emails between requesting the first repair and getting a replacement unit. Once I posted this review however, I was contacted by a different Dreame rep and they sent me out a replacement and it arrived within 5 days of the review and has been working well. My original unit had already been sent in a second time at this point, but they did not request that I send them the old base station which was really nice. I'm grateful to add 2 stars as a result of their good-faith efforts -- It isn't the full 5 for two reasons: First, it was still an unreasonable amount of time and effort to get the unit repaired, re-repaired and then replaced. They are clearly making improvements in this area, but they still have a bit more work to get their service teams aligned and communicating correctly. Secondly, they have emailed me over 10 times (to two different email addresses) since sending the replacement unit asking me to update or delete my review. I told them I would be testing the unit before updating, so I've needed a few weeks to do so. I don't think deleting or requesting the deletion of a review is appropriate since it is my real personal experience and I want others to understand the full picture. Lastly, the poor English in the App makes the overall experience a bit less enjoyable. It would take someone 10 minutes to fix, but I guess it must not be a priority at this moment. I would gladly hop on the phone or send in a quick email to help if they'd like -- It's small stuff but it adds up in certain areas. To Dreame's full credit, they have consistently been accommodating, kind, and clearly making their best effort to resolve any and all issues that came up with the machine and the repair process. Since the replacement unit is now working well (I've tested it for about 3+ weeks now) I will absolutely consider buying from them again, and I think others can feel confident doing the same, especially if you buy an extended warranty as well.

More impressed with it every time it runs!
We decided to replace our old robot vacuum from Eufy this year to upgrade and get a model that had mapping and mopping. I cannot tell you how impressed I am with this device! It’s attractive as far as robot vacuum and docks go, with nice bronze colored accents that make it seem better than just a hulking piece of plastic. From what I can tell, the quality of the build is terrific as everything I have opened or removed has always easily clicked satisfyingly back into place. The device itself is the same size and looks like just about every other robot vacuum that I’ve seen before except for the lidar sensor on the top. This sensor is great when it’s being used, but it sticks up and doesn’t flex, which makes it awkward to flip the vacuum upside down to replace the brush or side sweeper or stuff like that. I make a circle with a bath towel to hold around the edges and it works just fine. Mapping was shockingly accurate and nailed the layout of our home, with even about 90% accuracy on automatically naming those rooms as well. The mapping process was pretty quick and each time it runs in cleaning mode it will update the map with any changes that it detects. We were able to easily manually go and change a few things (change the autodetected flooring types from carpeted rooms to hardwood with rugs on the floor) but it was actually fun to do, so that was hardly a chore. We have moved the dock twice since buying it and it just figured it out, which was nice. I’m very impressed with the mopping overall - our dog door leads directly from the living room to the yard so on wet days we’re always complaining about dog prints constantly being present. Now, using a cleaning schedule set at 2:00 a.m. and only for a specific zone, I can wake up to clean floors everyday. For the whole house cleaning we have about 1000 sqft of wood that it mops when it runs and probably need to change the dirty water every other cycle when we’re using the built in “Clean Genius” mode that automatically decides everything (meaning, every other day if we mop every day). Clean water gets refilled after every session, but it’s probably not quite necessary. The device frequently returns to the dock throughout a normal whole-house cleaning session to rinse the mop pads and empty the dust bin, but the frequency of those returns is customizable within the well made app. The WiFi works well with the device. We use it with the Google Assistant speakers throughout our house which is convenient to pause and resume a cleaning if you need to make a call and don’t want the noise for a moment. Overall I’m very happy. I wish that it didn’t use disposable vacuum bags and instead had a large bin to empty, but there are plenty of cheap bags from off-brands that are easier to stomach than the full price ones from Dreame. The device also comes with a mopping solution that it slowly dispenses each time the mop is used, but I’ve also found that it cleans just fine with the ‘warm water’ setting when I’m looking for a quick clean that is ‘good enough’.

Beware before purchasing
This is my honest review after 9 months with the Dreame X40. When I first bought it, I thought it was the best thing ever. I’ve owned other top brands like iRobot and Roborock, and this one actually beat them right out of the box. The suction, the mopping, the mapping, everything felt way ahead of the competition. I was so impressed I bragged about it and even convinced friends and family to spend over a thousand dollars on one. Now 9 months later, I regret it. The mop base constantly floods instead of cleaning the pads and leaves dirty water puddles on the floor. The dust bin clogs way too easily, even when it’s not picking up much. Every time I try to mop, the pads don’t detach from the base like they are supposed to and I end up having to manually put them on the robot. That is the exact opposite of the convenience I bought this for. On top of that, the robot constantly complains that it is stuck or that something is in the rotors when nothing is there. It interrupts cleaning runs over and over for no reason. It feels like babysitting an expensive machine that was supposed to save me time. What really frustrates me is how good it was in the beginning. I told people this was the best vacuum on the market. I hyped it up and pushed others to get one. Now not only am I disappointed but the people I convinced to buy one are having the same problems. It is honestly embarrassing to recommend something that falls apart this quickly. Dreame needs to make this right. Whether it is a proper fix, an update, or at least admitting that these issues exist, they cannot just let people drop this much money on a product that declines so fast. I am giving it 2 stars only because it truly was amazing in the beginning. But the longer I have had it, the worse it has gotten. If you are considering buying one, be careful. It works great for a couple of months and then turns into a headache.

Amazing object avoidance
I love this unit! The app is easy to use straight away with the clean genius, yet has a lot of customization options. I was astounded at how well it mapped my rooms even identifying rooms based on the contents of them automatically. It avoids all objects so I don't have to worry if something is left on the floor, so I can be confident in creating an automatic cleaning schedule when I'm not home. We have an older model Shark robot that doesn't have the lidar feature and it is constantly running things over and bullying it's way into spaces it shouldn't go thus getting stuck. We have had this Dreame unit 2 months and it has not gotten stuck once. I was apprehensive about getting one with the mop feature as we have both carpets and tile. It knows which surface it's on and picks up the mop pads on carpet. Or you can choose the vacuum then mop feature and it will leave the mop pads on the dock. Even with the mop setting at max wetness the floor is dry within minutes and it uses minimal water. I still have not had to refill the water tank. As for the quality of the mop job, it does a decent job of surface cleaning. About the same as a swiffer wet pad. I will still need to use my steam mop for a deep clean, but this is a great way to keep the floors clean on a daily basis. I've not had any problems of the dirty water bin having a smell even if I'm not home to empty it right away. This is a pricey unit but worth every penny.

Aguardo retorno urgente.
