Opening small took long time to get foot in any ideas

I got them as dress shoes so i only wear with thin dress socks so i don't have to much of a problem im hoping if i wear more the elastic will give a little.

Do these boots polish up or stay with the worn look?

They do polish up nice and keep the nice worn leather look very nicely.

Most boots stretch, should I go one size down to allow for stretching?

For me, I should have gone for a half size smaller. These will fit with insulated socks, but feel loose with lighter-weight summer socks.
