A new TEAC tray-loading transport ensures years of reliable operation. The new transport also allows gapless recording when setting track marks, something not possible using off-the-shelf PC optical drives. A high-performance codec chip is used for A/D and D/A conversion for clean, clear sound quality with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz ±0.8 dB. The CD-RW901MKII has balanced analogue input/output jacks, optical and coaxial digital audio connectors and external control terminals. Both the left and right analogue inputs have their own gain controls on the front panel. In addition, the digital input can be controlled for optimal recording levels from a digital source. I restarted using it recently and bought new identical CD-R 's to add to my remaining unused ones from years ago. The new ones would not work and by testing both old and new I found that almost every new CD-R produced today would not work. In the end I had to buy this machine to replace the old one not because it was faulty but because very few and now high priced discs were available. Yhis machine will work with any type of CD-R that I have including the much much cheaper computer versions. They all seem to produce the same quality of result and in some cases vinyl recorded on the ordinary non music type discs works better and with a better output when played back on a normal CD plyer. So far I have had no problems and have transcribed over 600 singles and 100 LP's using it. A lot of the bells and whistles I have not used yet but I will in the future. It is easy to use as many of the functions for normal recording are either the same or very similar to the way the first generation machines worked. Takes just about any CD-R or CD-RW.Sadly doesn’t have the same editing features of minidisc decks and the wired remote is a throwback to yesteryear but works fine. Only minor quibbles relate to a euro kettle lead being supplied and it is not the quietest of machines.
