This is the second time purchasing this product. The first purchase was for a personal project to create lamps by cutting bottles, and the result was excellent because the cutter is very easy to use with minimal pressure on the bottle. Finally, only cold and hot water is required. I've used this bottle cutter on 11 bottles/jars now, with (mostly) good results. It seems that some bottles tend to cut more cleanly than others.For example, 6 of the wine bottles were very easy to cut - the etched scratch line came through neatly and consistently all of the way around the bottle. Also, 2 clear jars (I think these were both jelly jars) cut like a dream, with very little fuss or effort.Yet a similar jar didn't work well, with the scratched line wavering (I must not have had consistent pressure while rotating it), so I couldn't use it. And with a different, taller jar, the scratch line missed a 3-inch section (again, I probably need practice to get consistent pressure during this step).If you are patient, and are willing to practice on a few bottles that you don't care about, this product will work for you most (but not all) of the time. If, however, you expect perfection on every bottle or jar, you will be disappointed.

I received this bottle cutter just 15 minutes ago and tried it immediately. I had watched a few YouTube tutorials beforehand, and one was particularly helpful. First, it's important to score the bottle no more than twice; the cutter doesn't actually cut the glass but creates a stress line for a clean break. Second, carefully pour boiling water in a thin stream over the score (tip: tilt the bottle slightly to avoid burning your hand), followed by a stream of cold water (I used my faucet). Repeat if necessary. My bottle's break line ended up asymmetrical because I didn't score it evenly all around, which I realized when applying the boiling water. Surprisingly, it only took one round of boiling water followed by cold water for the bottle to separate.My unit arrived with all five rollers pre-installed, possibly in response to complaints about having to mount two of them yourself. Regardless, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. It came with safety gloves, the hand cutter, a small vial of oil (though I didn't use it based on the tutorial's advice), sandpaper, instructions (which I haven't needed yet), and of course, the bottle cutter. Sanding the edges took the most time because I wanted them rounded, but the break was so clean that less sanding would have sufficed. Remember to lay something down to catch glass dust while sanding and consider wearing a mask to avoid inhaling it.Overall, I'm delighted with this product! By following these tips, you can achieve great results too.

Update: the seller reached out after reading my review below & offered me a full refund. I was not expecting or even wanting a refund as I’m keeping the bottle cutter & will continue to use it, I just wasn’t overly impressed with it. However, since they offered a refund, I accepted it. I will give the seller 5 stars for that.This works pretty decent for small scale projects, as in cutting just a few bottles for yourself. I wouldn’t use this for large scale projects or to make items to sell. I cut a few practice bottles as a trial & error first before I cut the actual bottle I was turning into a high ball glass. The instructions say NOT to go over your cut line more than once but I actually found I needed to in order to get a clean, flat cut. That could just be due to the thickness of the bottles I was cutting though, I’m not sure. After cutting half a dozen bottles, the ceramic cutter still seems to be effective. However, the whole system doesn’t work well on tapered bottles because you can’t angle the ceramic cutter in order to get a flat cut. I’ll keep using it here & there when I find neat bottles to turn into glass ware for myself though. If I decide to make gifts I’ll probably upgrade to a better model.

I imagine it works perfectly fine I was just thinking I could cut smaller bottles like a smaller size soda bottle. The straight part of your bottle needs to be at least 7 inches
