New pond, new filter. Decided to try a pressurised one.
Moved my koi into a new pond and decided that I’d set up a full system for a couple of weeks before demolishing their old pond and moving them. Looked at this type of filter and my local pond shop tried to talk me in to parting with £350 for one of these. Sorry, love supporting local business but no chance when this was. £200. Very easy to set up. So easy to clean the filter that my wife does it once a week for garden water. Normally she is someone who would not go near a filter and pump but this is so easy. Instructions were a bit vague with regards fitting the clear tail on which connector but not a major issue. I worked it out. Looks well built and looks like it will last well. No leaks and no water stains so far. Very happy.

Important things to know
This is the second 20000 pfc I have bought. The first bought Aug 2016 leaked pond water past the seal on the quartz tube into the UV ballast and shorted it out - after the warranty expired! I bought a replacement because I needed a new ballast, 7 new sponges and a new UV bulb - total cost circa £85, Amazons price for a new filter was £106 - no brainer really, and plenty of spare just in case! Now, things to know. (i) When you replace the uv bulb it's vital to liberally coat the 'O' ring with vaseline to prevent water ingress into the ballast. (ii) After thorough cleaning make sure you take careful note of which way round the individual filter foams and the media basket are replaced, it's easy to put them in the wrong way round and the instructions are not clear. (iii) The instructions suggest installation 2 metres from the pond, this is a safety issue should it fall into the pond. Your installation method or pond design will probably negate this requirement. (iv) It's important to control blanket weed through other methods (chemical or bio) otherwise it severely clogs the filters (leading to premature filter foam wear when spin cleaning) and water direction knob thus leading to the need for more regular thorough cleaning. (v) When spin cleaning the muck coming out will seriously clog your lawn so try to direct onto the garden. Overall I have been very pleased with the effectiveness of the filter and the price on Amazon is a bargain.

Bad Filter
Really bad filter keep away from it. Even with regular cleaning the filter blocks. The cleaning mechanism also destroys the sponges in less then 2 months Even turning the handle to clean the filter doesn’t get all the dirt out you have to dismantle the whole filter Would not recommend this filter My Hozelock filters are 10 years old and still in perfect working order Photo shows the wear on them

Great Value, excellent Filter
I have had this running in my pond for just over a month now. It is fantastic. The pond cleared up lovely after a day and the water has stayed crystal clear since. Cleaning it is a breeze and I was surprised how mucky the pond got in such a short time. Every week I go out there, turn the handle and clear the filter, as easy as that. Will have to see how it copes in the warmer months, but so far so good and so much cheaper than the Hozelock ones. Setting it up was a breeze and pretty straight forward. I wouldn't want to keep opening it and cleaning it out all the time because the metal belt that fastens it together was a little fiddly to close up, but I can't see it needing to be opened. I would highly recommend this filter

The best way to get a clear pond.
This is definitely the way to go to get a clear pond. We had a £200 gravity filter that worked but required cleaning every 2 or 3 days. Cleaning was quite a task. This is far superior. We can see the bottom of our pond now after 4 weeks. We have a 2000 litre pond with around 60 fish. Probably a touch overstocked. It is easier to clean. You leave your pump running and switch to expell the water. Then you turn the crank say 20 times which agitates the filter sponges. Then you open the outlet valve and direct the dirty water away. The dirty water is awesome plant fertiliser. After around 3 mins the water runs clear. Then you shut the outlet valve and return the water to your pond. We still use our gravity filter as a final filter although it now rarely needs cleaning. We find the pressure filter needs cleaning every 2 to 3 weeks. The main effort is topping the pond back up as obviously you lose some water each time you clean. Reading on the topic always buy one that is way bigger than the stated rating. Literally 5 to 10 times is not too much as you cannot over filter. Another advantage of these is you can bury or hide behind a bush, etc.

Very impressed
I have a 10,000L pond, full sun all day and lightly stocked with fish. I bought the PFC-20000 to replace a Lotus Green Genie 24000 that replaced a Green Genie 12500. The GG12500 struggled to keep my 10,000L pond clear, the GG24000 didn't last 30 mins as it couldn't cope with the throughput of water and overflowed. The PFC-20000 is a joy: I'm using an All Pond Solutions Eco 8000 connected to a skimmer and 4 days after fitting it my pond had gone from pea soup to gin clear. Cleaning is a doddle (1st clean took about 120L, then again the pond was filthy and I reckon it'll only take 40-80L next time). I really wish I'd bought a pressurised filter before, no worries about overflowing and easy cleaning. Given that an Oase Filtoclean 20000 is about £390 the All Pond Solutions PFC-20000 is £190, the latter has got to be a bargain even if the cleaning is a little less easy/efficient than the Oase version.
