Finally the truth about clowns is out! Beneath their smirky sinister grins and wildly patterned clothes are clever killers from out of this world. The "juxtaposition of their toy-store arsenal and malevolent intent proves to be a tasty combination" (Los Angeles Times) in this killer entertainment that will leave you fearing these big-top creatures for good. A spaceship—looking like a circus tent—lands in a field near a small town, signaling the attack of deviant, red-nosed, balloon-twisting psychos from another world who plan to annihilate mankind—by turning people into cotton candy! Luckily, the town's teen citizenry decides to fight back and teach the cosmic bozos a lesson. But these klowns are no klutzes, turning popcorn, peanuts and caramel corn into playful—but deadly—weapons of madcap destruction and mayhem! Review: Excellent release for fans of the movie - This review is for the Blu-Ray version of 'Killer Klowns From Outer Space.' There are lots and lots of reviews already and i saw the movie a few years ago but decided to revisit it upon release of this blu-ray. Like the previous release by MGM's Midnite Movies, there are lots of extra's and the picture quality is excellent. But then again, the picture quality was excellent on the previous release by MGM. It's not necessary to upgrade unless you are a huge fan of the movie and absolutely must have the best picture possible. I'm giving this release 5 stars because the movie is excellent and highly imaginative. The picture quality, which was already excellent is at it's best here so I can't lower the rating just because it isn't a huge improvement. The movie starts off with a couple of college students 'making out' at a lookout, the kind you see in lots of movies. These two are Mike and Debbie. They see a shooting star and decide to go investigate. Meanwhile, in a homage to 'The Blob' we see a farmer who goes into the woods to investigate the supposed meteor. He finds a circus tent in the middle of the woods and encounters a Klown. Mike and Debbie arrive soon after and find the aforementioned circus tent. They enter and soon realize it's not a circus tent but something else entirely different. They discover dead people wrapped in cotton candy. Time enough to scream and head out quickly. They head to the police station and try to convince the police that their are clowns killing people. Officer Mooney (John Vernon, whom we all remember as the Dean in Animal House) is having none of it. Fortunately, Debbie's ex-boyfriend, Officer Dave decides to give them a chance and go investigate. Debbie is dumped off at home and Dave and Mike head to the woods where they find the tent is gone. Of course, Dave doesn't believe Mike despite the fact that their is an enormous crater right where the tent was and arrests Mike on the spot. This might be extreme but he was looking for a reason to get rid of Mike so he can make the moves on his ex, Debbie. It's not long after that that Officer Dave discovers that Mike is telling the truth. Officer Mooney, despite receiving a phone call from everybody in town (while sitting and laughing while reading a guns and ammo magazine!) refuses to believe any bit of this business of clowns. Even when he a Klown shows up he still believes the town is playing a practical joke on him. His end is somewhat creepy and reminiscent of 'What's the Matter with Helen?' From here it's up to Mike, Debbie, and Officer Dave to stop the Killer Klowns from Outer Space (along with some added help from the comical and very sexually frustrated Terenzi Brothers.) Just about every stereotype of clowns you can think of is used at some point in this movie. It is very creative and enjoyable to watch. I have to admit I thought I was going to hate it when I first watched it a few years back. I was bored for the first 15 minutes but then once I saw the Klowns in action along with the very excellent makeup, I was hooked. There are lots of good extra's that come with the movie. For starters there is an audio commentary by the Chiodo brothers, who made the movie. There are 5 featurettes which include the 'making of' and visual effects. There are also deleted scenes and bloopers along with the trailer. Highly Recommended for all fans of the horror-comedy genre and also for fans of clown (Klown) movies! Review: GREAT B+++ MOVIE THAT YOU SHOULDN'T SKIP - Is this another stupid B movie? NO! Is this another quircky time killing movie only? NO! This movie is so well made B++movie. Yes! This movie is so funny and scary at the same time that I don't even know I should laugh and scared at the same time or what. The killer Klawns came from the space and they kill the people out there. But also they are strangely cute. There are two cops. One is an old one the other is a young one. An old one doesn't believe them till he actually meets them and killed by them. Even so many people calls him to the police office, he just disconnects the phone by saying you are crazy. Then he drinks strong alchol. The other cop tries to stop the Klowns. But useless since they are so many and he is just one. The woman and her boyfriend who saw the klowns and also saw their tent tries to stop them too but what can they do? They are killer klowns. The music is so strange that you might be even be scared as well. It is sound of electric keyboard that is like 80s futuristic pop. People who suffers from This Klowns are just speecheless. They think these guys are trying to kill them, but again, they are klowns. Sometimes people see them and they laugh because they are suppose to be laughable. They are klowns. What am I talking? You just have to see this movie. It is so original and so funny and so scarry at the same time. You won't find anything like this in this earth. Now I know why so many critics are talking about this film. It is almost an art that you shouldn't miss. I will remember the director's name and try to find some other movies in the future. This new 4K transfer is GORGEOUS! A better movie now than when I first saw it.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (Special Edition) [Blu-ray ] I'm a long-time fan of this movie, so I've been looking forward to what is effectively a 30th anniversary Blu-Ray. However, my anticipation was not without some concerns. Part of the fun with Killer Klowns is that we get to see how the three Chiodo brothers crafted a fun, creative film on a shoestring budget by dint of their passion and hard work. Sure, it's staged and performed like all those 'B'-grade movies you may have seen at a drive-in theatre, but that's the point. Killer Klowns is a loving homage to cheap & cheerful 'chiller' flicks from the '50s and '60s and it stands above them largely on the basis of its delightful special effects...all of which were 'practical', meaning no CGI and only about 30 seconds of stop-motion animation. And it's because of the effects that I had reservations about finally seeing a print with proper resolution and contrast. The original DVD version was famously murky, throughout. Of course, this was largely due to all the night shots but I had long presumed the Chiodos cleverly took advantage of the dark frames to help conceal at least some of the necessarily low-cost effects. Well, after watching the new disc twice I couldn't have been more wrong -- this new 4K transfer is amazing! Everything on-screen is super crisp -- you can see every ghastly crease in the alien Klowns' faces. But far from exposing Hollywood FX magic, it only makes the Chiodos' work all the more remarkable. If anything, it's a better movie now than when I saw it the first time! The new Special Edition disc includes a large set of extra features that are pretty much the same as in earlier releases, with lots of them dating from the 2014 Blu-Ray release. There's a new interview with two members of The Dickies (theme song band) and another with the Chiodo brothers, who describe -- and show -- more of their childhood movie efforts than we've previously seen. The package includes an illustrated booklet with a short-form essay by critic James Oliver and information on the transfer, plus a 2-sided mini-poster that's meant to resemble old-school lobby placards -- see my photos, nearby. If you're a fan or even if you just enjoy watching true professionals practice their craft, you can't go wrong with this disc. Killer Klowns rocks!

My Favorite Movie of All Time!
I know what you're thinking: "How can a movie called Killer Klowns from Outer Space be this guys favorite movie of all time?" Well, I'll tell you. Killer Klowns from Outer Space is nothing short of a brilliant film. It's not a movie you are to take seriously. Instead you are to watch it, laugh, have fun and get scared half to death (that is if you are afraid of clowns or Klowns in this instance). It's an obvious B movie but it is well respected and unfortunately not well known. The acting isn't the best but it doesn't take away from the film, in fact it adds the B movie quality to it. The story is good in an 80's sort of way. It's cliche but that's what makes it great. The Klowns are both funny and scary all at the same time. You will be transfixed on the screen wanting to see the outrageous scary Klowns that appear in this film. The movie also has with it some great one liners that really complete the B movie aspect. It's hard to write a review of this really just because of how the movie is. If you haven't seen it then please take a look at it and if you have seen it and are wondering if it is worth buying on Blu Ray, I say yes. I first watched this movie when I was a young boy in the 90's on VHS. I bought it for the first time on DVD when it was released and enjoyed it. Now I just bought it on Blu Ray and I have to say the transition is pretty good. Now it is from the 80s so don't expect much of an HD look as we know it now, but it is still worth buying on Blu Ray for hardcore Killer Klown fans like myself. Totally worth it!

Great Satire of Sci-fi/Horror looking great on 4K
I've had this movie under various formats before such as DVD and Blu-Ray. I knew I had to get the 4K eventually and I'm glad I did. The story is familiar enough. It starts out with a strange alien spacecraft landing outside of a small town whose inhabitants later share an eventful night as they're terrorized by beings from another world. The difference here is that the aliens look and act like monstrous Circus Clowns! I've always loved this movie for its clever satire of the Science Fiction / Horror genre. They take familiar tropes of aliens invading a small town and then turn everything on its head by making the aliens into bizarre Circus Clowns whose spaceship looks like a giant circus tent and whose guns shoot substances like popcorn and cotton candy cocoons. I also like how this movie has clearly received inspiration from classic films like The Blob, Forbidden Planet and others. You can tell that the Chiodo Brothers clearly had a love for the classic films and really made Killer Klowns into a labor of love. It's also not played entirely for laughs as there are some genuinely creepy moments offered by the Klowns and the human protagonists deliver their lines and roles as seriously as they can (even when being shot at by popcorn guns). I don't put this in a "so bad it's good" category because this is an obvious satire delivered well. It's supposed to be cheesy in its delivery and that's what makes it fun. The 4K package is really good. As usual with releases like this, there is a 4K disc, a Blu-Ray Disc and a card with codes for a Digital Copy. The 4K version of the film looks really fantastic. Perfect color, picture and sound make for a great viewing experience. Also, what's common with this release is that the 4K disc just has the film itself with no special features other than the commentary track. If you want to view the Special Features, you have to go to the Blu-Ray. There is a small disappointment in that the special features offer nothing new. There are the usual offerings of behind-the-scenes documentaries, deleted scenes and gag reels. However, they are the same features that have been seen on previous DVD and Blu-Ray releases. So, if you've had those versions in the past, then you've seen all the Special Features that this new package has to offer. However, the 4K version looks so great that purchasing it is well worth it. I do want to add a small critique of the case. I got the black plastic case, not the steel-book. The black case has the two discs on either side and the spokes holding the discs in the case are a little shallow. It's common to find one or both discs loose in the case when you open it, so open with care. Fans of this film will not be disappointed in this great new 4K release. Highly recommended for fans of Sci-Fi / Horror Satire.

Killer, Yet Campy B-Rated Horror
If anyone tells you that this movie is a scary, or even a grammy winning event, then you've definitely been "clowned" (Sorry for the corny joke...just couldn't help myself on that one). In fact, I'll never forget the weird look my friends gave me when I brought this film over for all of us to watch. But once it got started, none of them could stop laughing. The movie starts off with your typical, big-haired, tight jean wearing 80s couple lying in their town's local "lover's peak," when a shooting star whizzes past them and lands somewhere nearby. Naturally, the couple just has to go and investigate. What they find is a massive cirus tent swarming with creepy, psychotic alien clowns. After making a narrow escape from almost being shot down by killer popcorn, the couple runs to report the incident to the police, only to find that the clowns have inundated the town and are killing everyone by turning them into giant balls of cotton candy! I swear the makers of the film have manipulated every clown-related trick known to man. For example, one of the clowns uses a hand-shadow to swallow up a "handful" of unsuspecting people, caustic, lethal pies get thrown, and the clowns even use animal-shaped balloons to murder their victims. Of course, there's the one token black guy in the movie who, surprisingly isn't the first to be killed. On the other hand, this movie is filled with all sorts of bad, yet darkly hilarious scenes. One of my favorites is when a tiny killer clown comes out of a girl's toilet (if you look closely you can see the hand/arm of the pupeteer holding the clown's head as it rises from the toilet bowl). Of course, the actors and their lines are also less than stellar, which in many ways only helps to make the film even funnier. So if you enjoy fatuous, B-rated horror films, then you should definitely check this out.
