Finally a fit, and a Quality Made Product
First of all, I just want to say, the product (Maymom made 21mm one-piece breastshield) is quality made, and I have been using it for the past three weeks. No more pains! Ya. I expressed at least 1 oz more milk every session after I have used these 21 mm breastshields. This one piece product works as well as the two piece Medela PersonalFit 21mm one. What I would like to share more is how I came to this product. Like everyone else, I tried the 24 mm breastshield that came with the machine. As a first-time mother, I thought having some pains after a pumping session is normal. I was wrong. After few days of using it, the pains were terrible. I experienced a lot of pains and bruising from using the standard 24mm shields. From the diagrams on Medela's website and the information that comes with the pump, the flange should fit with just your nipple being pulled in during pumping. It is confusing if you have a mixed areola/nipple area. The problem is that my 'areola' protrudes about 1/8 inches and I thought that is part of the 'nipple' area when I talked to a lactation consultant. The lactation consultant told me to try larger breastshields. I tried larger one (27 mm), though it did not hurt as much, my milk supply went down by one-third and the bruise area became large. I felt every suction along the pumping. I tried the next size up - 30 mm, even worse! After reading more and more reviews, I decided to try a smaller one. I ordered both Medela's PersonalFit 21 mm breastshield and this Maymom made one (it is cheaper, and others said it is easier to clean). Tada.. No more pains. Both brands worked well. Finally a FIT. I realized now that when I was using the larger ones (27 mm and 30 mm), it was more of the 'areola' that was pulled into the tunnel and the milk ducts were blocked during a suction action. Therefore, less milk supply. When I was using the medium one, the sensitive area of my 'areola' was rubbing the tunnel, thus pains. So the bottom line - know what are the nipple and areola of your breasts. It is the nipple part that should go into the breastshield tunnels, not the areola. Choose the right size and pumping will no longer be painful!

Highly recommend! Fits madela Instyle pump parts perfectly
This should be the standard issued size with your pump! there is little to no info given on breast shield sizes when your starting your journey to breastfeeding and pumping, and having this little piece of info can be a game changer! I was issued my Madela Instyle Advance pump with 24cm shields, and they were so large I had my whole( small b cup) boob basically squeezing into that thing and losing suction the whole time, having to hold them on to pump anything at all, all the while not knowing any better that it shouldn't be like that, you shouldn't have that much in there, and you shouldn't be in pain. This made ALL THE DIFFERENCE! I actually have milk pumping properly and in abundant amounts, I'm not in pain, and not having to hold onto them the whole time, which was the huge thing. Ladies, if you have small breasts, see if you have the right size shield. Also try a pumping bra that's not the strapless zipper one from madela. I bought the hofish brand two pack for $25 here on Amazon and it also made a huge difference! I wasn't constantly pulling it up because of my small chest making the strapless madela one roll downward. They are optional strapless too, but adjustable in the back so it isn't a crappy zipper that breaks every month or so. purchasing these shields changed my entire perspective on pumping and my whole experience with nursing too. I increased my breastmilk supply having been able to pump properly when needed, and express what I needed when baby was done nursing. Seriously look at the shield size chart from madela, I never knew it existed until I saw these online and looking on Pinterest I found the chart.

superior to the medela flanges, size is perfect for me
I have been using the standard medley pump flanges for a few years with my first son and now with my second. I used to get bruises and have lots of pain when I used these... I didn't know the flanges came in other sizes. I know I have very small nipples and I didn't realize that the pump was actually taking in tissue it wasn't supposed to suck in. I honestly just thought to look into alternative pump flanges a month after my second son was born and I did it because the end of the areola and nipple never felt drained, when I self expressed, I always got another let down and it was back on with the pump flange. So I decided to get the smallest flange out there and I am so glad I did! these 19mm openings produce more let downs, my nipples aren't misshapen afterward and they no longer bruise or hurt. I think the design is similar but improved upon the original flanges in a way that minimizes spray in the vertical chamber which reduces waste...for those of us who try to recover every last drop. The perfect way the milk falls from its intended port into the second chamber is so much more direct and as the design has intended it compared to the other flanges. I don't like 2 things, the opacity of the thicker plastic nipple chamber makes visibility difficult. I use compressions in conjunction with each let down and in between them so I do watch for visual confirmation in the chamber. However, the thickness of the chamber surrounding plastic is an improvement over the other flanges...I actually have a crack in one of the first flanges I used in the chamber which could have soon spread and compromised its suction. The overall construction of these flanges is superior and improved. Everything fits very snugly where parts are meant to be attached. The second thing I don't like is that these flanges are smaller and aren't as secure in my hands free pumping bra with round holes (not the type with overlapping material) as the larger, original flanges...the holes in the bra are somewhat stretched and if I compress during pumping, the bottom of the flanges can pop out of the hole. This too has an upside...i am able to compress more breast tissue without the larger perimeter of the other flanges...so I can just get another bra or modify this one. And, the diameter, of course, is perfect for me. I think this company has made a superior product both in design and function...they offer a size medley does not and it's exactly what I needed. It's a well priced product...they seem well worth the price and I would have paid more for these after knowing what I know about them now. I highly recommend trying a smaller flange if you experience bruising or have build up of milk in your nipple that isn't adequately removed while pumping.

A smaller size makes a huge difference
In terms of options, Maymom offers an exceptional assortment of flanges - much more than Medela, which is somewhat sad since Medela offers so many breastfeeding products. I never thought I was going to need the smallest shield that is made. Indeed, I went through bigger sizes - since many women need larger sizes rather than smaller sizes - before realizing Maymom had a handy dandy chart. I actually need a 17 mm flange, which doesn't appear to exist. Despite my true sizing need, the 19 mm has done wonders in terms of alleviating pains. The suction caused by a hands free pumping bra makes it vital to get a good fitting flange. Don't just stick with the 24 mm because it could lead to blisters and days of misery. Ultimately, these shields work pretty well. I like the one piece function for the stability it provides. When I am removing the flanges from my hands free bra, I don't want pieces to disconnect - it happened to me with the multi-piece Medela flanges and milk went everywhere. The single piece, however, can make cleaning more difficult. The shields are made of the same hard plastic as the Medela shields. In addition to an even smaller size, I wish Maymom would look into flexible flanges or angled flanges (kind of like Pumpin Pals but in a smaller size). I guess Medela once made soft plastic flanges but they were pulled. I urge you to consider this company for your pumping supply needs. I'm appreciative that I can get supplies quickly. I've tried tubing from this company, and it actually has worked better than the Medela tubing that came with my pump. The valves and membranes are also equal in quality to the Medela pieces.

Hard to find size locally but this one is perfect!
I am so thankful to have found this size breast flange on Amazon! When you pregnant the last thing you expect is that things will go wrong. Sure the idea is in the back of your mind but you push it away. This might be why I was caught so off guard when our newest little bundle of joy was born 5 weeks early. So many things were a challenge, including eating for her. I found myself pumping what seemed like all day and night. I wasn't getting much milk for her and we had to use formula for many reasons including her blood sugar as I was diabetic. We spoke to experts on lactation and when all was said and done, I was still on the pump trying all I could to get as much milk for baby as I could. One suggestion that came my way on a specially difficult low supply day was trying a smaller flange. My husband and I and baby plus our 5 year old set out into the big city in search of what we knew existed. 5 stores later, we came up short and I found myself in pain having over done it and with 2 little girls who just wanted to be home. No smaller 21mm flanges. Why had babies r us and so many other stores failed me? They had larger sizes but not smaller. Amazon though didn't disappoint. I ordered on here from Maymom and in 2 days I got my flanges. 21mm as promised, clean well made plastic flanges. They are perfection and fit perfectly with the medela bottles I have, the tubing, and on two different pump in style medela machines! I am so very thankful! Now I am working on seeing if these give me more or less when it comes to output of breast milk. Wish us luck!

Didn't work well for me but might for you
They were compatible with my medela pump no problem. The one piece aspect wasn't bad. This is my fourth child I'm nursing and pumping so I'm not new, went 18months with the first three. I ordered these as they were much cheaper then medela and I was having to rebuy everything after giving it all away thinking we were done having baby's. Anyways. First use and milk goes in the tube, happens occasionally but after the third time with the same shield, something is wrong with that one. I notice that sometimes I pump and feel great and get a lot of milk, other times I'm struggling and on the machine longer and I'm not as empty still. The tube that pulls the nipple in is much shorter and my nipple goes too far and I get a poor pump. My medela and these other off brand, nenesupply, are longer and don't pull my nipple all the way to the back so I get a good pump and empty nicely. I'm a larger bust with a nipple about as big around as my thumb, so maybe only a busty girl problem? I dunno. But other then that issue the suction was nice and strong, easy to clean yadda yadda good stuff to say. Just for me if I can't get a good empty when I pump I start to get sore and my breasts harden and get tender and I'll get cloggs so these don't work for me.

Works well, wish it came in oval flanges
I am an exclusive pumper using Medela Symphony. I bought these to have extra pump parts. They work as well as my Medela brand of the same size/style. However, I wish there were more flange options from this company. Specifically, I would like to see oval shaped with a wider angle to fit better. These don’t fit large breasts super comfortably and have a hard time suctioning sometimes.

Thank God for the Smaller Sizes!
I want to thank the founding dads of Maymom for recognizing that women's nipples come in wider ranges of shapes and sizes. The smallest flange size Medela has is 21mm. My bra size was 32A pre-pregnancy and now it is 32B (sometimes 32C) while breastfeeding. I thought my nipples were average for my breast size, but apparently I needed an X-Small flange. I ordered two sets of 15mm and my milk output has increased and pumping is so much more comfortable! Many pumping moms don't know that you should actually go down in flange sizes to reduce discomfort and increase milk output. I learned this from my lactation consultant, but not all lactation consultants know to give this advice. Always err on the smaller flange size. I guarantee you'll notice a difference! Almost every woman has to go down a size or sizes as she continues pumping because the elasticity of your nipple changes. I like that Maymom breast flanges come in one piece so you never have to worry about the connector coming loose during your pump session and milk spilling everywhere! I don't have any problems cleaning the one piece. I use mild dish soap and let super hot water run through it. I use the brush that's included with the flanges for a deeper clean. I have a Papablic sterilizer so I pop the flanges in the bottom compartment and the valves in the upper compartment. It's really nice that the pack comes with extra valves and membranes. It's a good value. It's a pain to get these flanges in the Medela hands-free pumping bra as you have to back it in, but if you have the Simple Wishes bra, it makes getting these guys in a lot easier!! The Simple Wishes pumping bra is a MUST HAVE to go along with the Maymom flanges.
