Irritrol TC-12EX-R 12 Station Outdoor Irrigation Total Controller

I go this unit to replace a similar one that had finally succumbed to the brutal Arizona heat after about 9 years of use. I think the computer board in the old unit melted a little. The new unit is almost identical and is exactly what I need for my multi station landscaping. I had it professionally installed and am very happy with its performance. I'll always use Irritrol Total Control units for my irrigation needs. The guy that installed it told me that it was an excellent irrigation control and well worth the money spent.

I have 12 zones that are a combination of lawn and landscaping and this controller manages everything I need to do. This controller allows you to water multiple zones multiple times a day, or on intervals such as M-W-F or every 3rd day. It has a handy feature called "Water Budget" which allows you to increase/decrease the water times by a percentage without re-programming your watering schedule. For instance in the middle of the hot summer you may want to increase watering times by 30%, but in late fall decrease them by 20%. You can also do all the normal stuff like manually turn on/off a particular zone, or manually run one of your water programs. You can also tell it to skip X days if you know you're going to get rain. What is a typical watering program? I created four groups with my 12 zones for the front yard ("A"), back yard ("B"), front landscaping ("C") and back landscaping ("D"). So the "A" program may be zones 2, 3 and 5 as an example. Then I created a watering program that runs "A" every other day starting at 3 am; "B" every other day (on the opposite days) starting at 3 am; "C" and "D" running every 3 days starting at 5 am (on different days). This way the front yard is never on with the back yard, and neither yard runs when the landscaping runs, and neither back or front landscaping is every on at the same time. This manages the water pressure and my well capacity. I added a wireless Irritrol Rain Sensor to turn the system off when it has rained. There's nothing more stupid then seeing an irrigation system running in a downpour! This is extremely easy to add as they have a connector built in for a sensor. The only thing it doesn't have - which none in this price class do - is (wireless) Internet access. I would love to control this with my phone, and have an app that does smart things like get the local weather forecast and turn it off if it's going to rain (as opposed to a rain sensor that turns it off after the fact) or run it longer during a heat wave. (I'd love to connect a Raspberry Pi to this and do it myself!) It's a very reliable, simple yet full featured irrigation controller that you will be happy with.

It doesn't work worth a darn. It has mysterious zone control that doesn't separate the zones at all. It also likes to water whenever it feels like it. Save your money and buy a Rainbird.

We are a comercial greenhouse grower and have several RD 1200-EXT-R units and they work Great, i have been using these for 15 years.
