I have a black powder 44 colt that I built from a kit and I want to blue all the metal. will this work on my gun?

This product is the best of several "cold blue" products I have used, but mainly for touch up of small areas. It will work best on large pieces if you heat them first with a hair dryer or heat gun. Be sure all traces of oil, even your fingerprints, are removed from the metal before you apply 44/40. Try a second application on small parts first before doing a second coat on the frame and barrel. Since the cold blue is effect an oxidation, be sure to oil everything well when you are satisfied with the coverage.

Is this a liquid or a gel?

44/40 is a liquid. It turns ferrous metals almost black instantly. Takes only a little, so I apply it with a bit of paper towel, sometimes Q-tips. Very satisfying.

Is there enough to do a shotgun barrel?

It depends on how well you prep the barrel. I used it on a front sight base where I ground off the sling swivel in conjunction with installing a free float tube. The color wasn't very deep so I did a few coatings. Could be my technique or the cast material of the base. A steel barrel might have a better result. Rock River Arms called this product out in its free float tube instructions.
