Great interactive touch and feel learning tool for baby's and toddlers!
Love love love these first words flash cards. They have touch and feel on the front of each flash card. They have engaging questions on the back of the card to help the learning and thought process of the child. The flash cards also have translations of the item of the card in different languages such as Chinese and German. The foreign languages also have a pronunciation key to help say the word correctly in a different language. These cards are good for learning first words at the baby stage, but will also go well into the toddler years with all of the engaging questions on the back. Some question on the back of the card are. ~~~~~~~~Apple~~~~~~~~~~ (1. What is the name of this fruit? (2. Does the apple feel rough or smooth? (3. What does an apple taste like? (4.What sound does the "apple" start with? (5. Let's look at the other cards in the pack. Can you find any more things that you can eat? Then it has apple translated in Spanish, French, German and Chinese. These cards are fantastic and my 6 month old baby loves playing with them they have a jelly card that is actually sticky! So neat! I plan to buy more MY First cards they are worth every penny.

Awesome Product! Great Box!
This product is all around awesome. The card size, weight, pictures, textures, foreign language translations and prompting questions are all perfect in addition to being in a kid-friendly, cute box. This is one of my son's favorite toys and has been for 6+ months as he continues to find new things about them that he likes as he develops. First, it was the textures and pictures. Now, he's more into word association and putting the cards in and out of the box which is so amazingly well thought out yet simple. You wouldn't think it took any though. The small velcro tab is secure enough to keep the cards inside but easy enough for a small infant or toddler to open by themselves which they love doing as soon as they realize they can do things. As any primary caretaker can attest, sometimes you have no steam left for that little bundle of joy whose curiousity never ends. Although I don't use the questions on the back of the cards a lot, I like that they're there because, in those moments, they're handy. I have a feeling that as he starts foreign language classes, we'll be using the translations. I'd pay $25 for this product if I had to do it over again knowing what a fun, educational, interesting and dynamic toy this is for any small child.

The cards are nice and sturdy
WOW instant hit with my 15 month old. Immediately purchased 2 other versions. The cards are nice and sturdy, the colors are bright, and each card has a spot with a different texture or material for your toddler to feel (for example the jelly has a spot that's sticky, the corn has grooves and ridges). I love that on the back of each card they have ideas for the adult on how to help your child learn with the cards from suggestions of questions to ask when they are first starting out, working all the way to expanding on spelling related games as they get older, and even going as far as to include translations in Spanish, French, German, and Mandarin if you really want to be that over achiever. I love this because not only does this keep the cards relevant and engaging for your child as they get older, but it gives people with maybe less experience playing with younger children great ideas on how to use these cards. The cards fit nicely in their cardboard enclosure that is secured shut with Velcro, so they are easy to put away or take with you on trips. My only complaint would be that since this is the "First Words" version, I wish one or two of the items which are maybe not as common were replaced with items that would be more in line with actual toddlers first words...and really this is more nit picking than a complaint.

Fun durable cards
My daughter loves these cards. The jelly card is no longer sticky, but she still likes to dump out all the cards and also tries to put them back in the box. The box is very sturdy and has a velcro dot closure. The cards a fairly sturdy as well. Some of the touch and feel parts aren't really feely as they are only shiny foil "painted" on, so it's more of a visual kind of thing. Since getting these cards and the other three sets, my daughter has quickly learned all the words. It is quite amazing. She also likes to open all the boxes and dump the cards out in a big pile. Then she stands on the pile and slips around on them. She sometimes lies down and makes "flash card angel" which just makes a huge mess. The worst part is me having to separate out the cards. Some cards are similar to others in the other boxes. We have two tractors, two trains, two buses, two dogs, two cats, but each one is a slightly different view. I think these cards helped a lot. I ask her to get a specific card and she looks for it and gives it to me. I also show her cards and she tells me what is on the card. She also will run off and get her toy that is the same as the card. For instance, the dog card, she goes to get her stuffed dog which looks completely different from the one on the card, but she knows that they are both dogs. She'll point to the card, and then to the toy and repeat the word. Sometimes I end up with a big pile of her toys that match those on the cards. Overall these cards are a good value. They are much more sturdy than other cards (Baby Einstein) that she has. She likes to feel the textures on the card too. The images are big and clear without distractions on the card itself.

Better than regular flash cards...
My 17 month old asks for these "flash cards" on a semi-regular basis. His favorite is the set with the animals. The "First Words" set comes in second place for him. I don't usually let him have control over the box or deck because I'm trying to help them survive in case we have another child. So, our boy gets to go through them with an adult. Now he can tell us what a lot of them are without any help. He knows nearly all of them in the set featuring animals. He likes the textures. I like the way these can continue to be a teaching tool past just learning what a particular thing looks like and what it is called (since the back of each card has additional info including how to say it in other languages as well as questions to ask the child). Are they more expensive than flash cards with just a picture and what the thing is called? Yes. But are these worth the higher price? I think so. I don't think regular flash cards would hold my toddler's attention the same as these do and he really enjoys them.

Great cards; the colors are bright, the textures are varied & the image quality is perfect but I omitted one star because some of the words do not qualify as first words so I have to skip over them; "fire truck" would be an example.

Just awesome
Someone gave us these cards as a baby gift and we started using them at around 3 months (my son is 7 mos now). He loves the "tactile" aspect and gets excited every time I pull them out! The words are in Spanish, French and German on the back (we only do Spanish so I don't butcher too many languages :) and this is the BEST time for your child to absorb other languages, even when they can't speak at all. Beware what I call the "wild cards" - the ones your child is particularly obsessed with - because it's difficult to get their attention with the others after they see the wild cards (for us, it's the dog, cat, mirror and teddy bear!). As your child grows, there are developmentally appropriate questions on the back of the cards so they continue to be challenging long after your baby recognizes and says "cat." I went back to Amazon and promptly bought all the other DK cards! (The colors and shapes one is my other favorite!). All of these sets are amazing and will provide learning and fun for infants to preschoolers. Also, great for stuffing in a diaper bag or stroller to take along. The only thing you might do (particularly when your kiddo is a little bigger) is put holes in a top corner and put them on a zip tie or something for the car - otherwise, you'll be finding them between your seats weeks later :)

Very engaging!
Absolutely necessary. If youโre going to buy flash cards these are the only ones you should spend your money on. My 12 mo old was more engaged and actually gets them out to do every day!

Excellent learning tool
Helped my son learn the names of all the items on the cards and name them again in real life. At 2 he is very confident with them all.

Neat
My children were all able to learn each of the cards fairly easily through their use. Really enjoyed the textures on the cards and they survived quite a lot of beatings. Very robust.
