The damper inside our flu rusted and fell apart after 25 years and the outside facing is built with granite stone which meant taking that all apart! My husband did some research and luckily found this before beginning demolition. It solves 3 problems: it mounts on top of the chimney so no need for demolition, it provides a cover over the flu so no more rain water coming down the chimney and thirdly it provides a significant savings of heat. Typically I can always feel a slight  breeze where I sit in the living room caused by the fireplace drawing heat up the chimney. Not any more!We were wondering if it was going to be difficult to pull down the cable to close the damper due to reviews we read but it was not, actually I find it to be easy.
