Complete Book of Dinosaurs Review: Five Stars - It definitely captured interest of my 8 yr old granddaughter Review: Too difficult for first grade but nice workbook. - This workbook is pretty awesome. I found it at a local used bookstore unused for $1.50. :) I homeschool my sixth and first graders, so I was pretty pleased with this deal. The first thing I noticed is that I disagree with the age range set for the book. It claims on the cover to be for first through third grade. My child is in first grade and at least 75% of this book is not set up in a productive way for her age range. The first one hundred pages give a great informative paragraph or two and then ask around 6 question filling up a two page spread for each topic. These questions are given 3 lines each for answers. This is way too much writing for the typical first grader. The space to write is also not geared for this age as these children tend to write quite large. As you progress through the book, there are games, venn diagrams, math to include adding fractions, and much more. I really enjoy the book but I would say it is for a typical third to sixth grader. I would say fourth and fifth would be the best. My first grader isn't really going to get much from this as it will be hard and frustrating/boring at her young age. My sixth grader will likely find it reminiscent of elementary school but informative and entertaining as it is a subject that interests him.
