An interesting and inspirational book. Would definitely recommend it to readers of all ages. Tackles big topics very well. Well done Judy Blume

This is a brilliant book of Judy Blume's. Its about a 13 year old girl,Dennie who's mother wants her to be a model. But when Dennie finds out she has a curved spine everything changes.Dennie has to where this ugly brace for four whole years and all her dreams are brocken.I think tweens & teens from 10-13 will enjoy this book. Its got love awkward ages and friendship.I loved reading this book!

I really enjoyed reading this book because i did have scolioisis and had the operation. As i am the same age as Deenie in the book i really felt i connected to this book and you could say i had dejavu. I would really like it if Judy blume could write a second book about deenie where she has to have the operation, because in reality a brace doesnt fix the curve iut just prevents the curve from getting worse, and even in some cases the curve becomes worse and the person is need to have a operation. I just think it would be a really good book as to me the ending did not make sense as it just ended!

My 11 year old daughter loved this book and couldn't put it down. She loves reading Judy Blume books and has just got lots more of them to read very soon. She took this book everywhere and kept reading it whenever she had the chance. She found Deenie very interesting and funny at times but most of all she could relate to her worries about growing up. She would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

I absolutely loved this book and read it in 2 days! It was definitely worth the money and I would recommend this to any of my friends. I do think however that the ending could of been extended as it cut short and I didn't even realize and maybe some romance with Buddy would of made it a better book. But on the contrary I loved it as I have all her father books.

Taught me a lot about the importance of health and lifestyle ups and downs! Definitely a good read!!

This short book is aimed at a young pre=teen audience. Deenie is a 7th grader who has a mum and aunt who adamant that one day she will be a famous model. Their expectations for Deenie's sister, Helen, are that she will have some type of high flying academic career. Neither of these things are what the girls want for themselves. Deenie is discovered to have scoliosis of the spine and has to wear a back brace for four years. This causes deep insecurities and embarassment for Deenie and she is worried that the one boy she likes will no longer be interested. The book is told from Deenie's perspective with the correct thought processes of a girl her age. The characterisation is very good for all the character's who are all very different from each other. This has been a banned and challenged book due to some of it's content which focuses on female masturbation for comfort and on Deenie's questions about sex as a young adolescent, but I felt the subjects were covered sensitively and accurately. The general style and simplicity of the book put me in mind of a readership age of about of about 10 years old or maybe even younger but the content is more appropriate for girls aged 12-14. This is a disparity which does not work. I also felt that the ending was rather abrupt, more could definitely been said. Overall I would give this book 3/5 stars.

My thirteen year old was diagnosed with scoliosis last year and wears a brace. She really connected with Deenie. It's an easy read for an 8th grader, but poignant and comforting. Really glad we found this book!

A 13 year old girl, when dagnosed wth curvature of the spine finds herself required to wear a brace for the next four years. It's a short book - maybe a 2 hour read, but covers a lot of ground and delves into the girl's thinking and mother's overly ambitious desires for her children. I gave it 4 stars as I would have liked it to be longer. It covers enough marterial to have been longer. It touches on mastubation, and her wondering if its a good or bad thing to do, but its only a small sub-theme, so dont let that stop you buying it for anyone aged 10+, its just a fact of life. A good story and I will read more from this author.

I first read this book when I was diagnosed with scoliosis and it’s become a fast favorite. I didn’t wear a Milwaukee Brace I wear a newer kind of brace. To anyone reading this who has scoliosis, don’t ever limit what you can do . Keep a positive attitude about the whole thing it’s only temporary. It will be hard a first wearing the brace but it will get easier as you go along. Just find what works for you. If people have a problem with it that’s on them. Keep an upbeat attitude! You can do it!

i bought a box set a few years ago of judy blume books and i unfortunately lost my copy of deenie. exactly what i was looking for!
