The original struts failed and the new ones were .375 longer creating stress on the original brackets causing them to break. The toolbox lid is heavy and if you are not careful during the opening you could break the back window glass( $2590)These brackets at made of steel- they will outlast the box and the toolbox lid. My toolbox lid is doubled wall lid, and drilling a hole in the top, if not done correctly will allow water to enter into the box. Two pan head machine screws about 1.375 long with a locknut and black silicone applied during installation from the top. No more stress on the bracket from the strut being just a bit too long.
