It has only a very thin foam backing - certainly not enough for the cover to be used on its own. I have supplemented it with Brabantia's felt pad. The cover has the usual drawstring & cleat to pull it tight and also a strap that fits across the widest part of the board to pull that taut too (pull the drawstrings tight before attach the strap). It loosened slightly after its first use but re-tightening the drawstring a second time seems to have done the trick. The fabric looks pretty decent - the last Brabantia cover we had lasted for several years. This is pretty and the colors are well saturated, it fits well.
