Review: The Engineer Review: Works better than Dino-Lite - I am so pleasantly surprised with this little microscope. Pictures attached show it being applied to a mouse pad and a metallic machined surface. Here are the main points I like: - easily connects wirelessly to your phone - takes very clear pictures - can connect with a cable to your laptop - snap a photo by pressing space bar or via the screen or by pressing the button on the device - easy to adjust the zoom - light is bright Not so great: - the focus area is very small - the light can't be adjusted Definitely a great buy, and for this price it would make a great educational toy as well!
Review: Smooth & portable - Stand is a must-have for any USB microscope owner. I was wary about quality given the price, but my expectations were blown away. - Solid all metal construction, except for the exact places you dont want metal: The feet are hard rubber, the knob in the back that locks the height presses onto a plastic slide - you can set it to provide smooth friction during focus adjustment, which works perfectly. The bolts that clamp onto the scope are plastic-tipped to avoid marring but still grip the scope tight. - The stand can be rotated and locked into other positions relative to the base. This is helpful to look at immobile large objects (see my attachment, have it rotated to see below the stand). - Adjustment knob is 'fine enough' unless you get into really high zooms - rack is 1.90mm pitch, seems to have a 10-tooth pinion, giving 19mm movement per full rotation. Theres continuous smooth motion, no steps or jittering as you adjust. With the locking knob providing friction it's reasonably easy to move it only ~50um at a time. At very high zooms my scope's depth of field is only 0.1mm so it's a little bit hard to get it perfect, but still doable.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great little microscope, but I need more hands

I bought this hoping to use it to track changes in my hair follicles over time. For that specific purpose it hasn’t worked out quite as well as I hoped, but I still think this is a great little microscope for the price. Connecting to WiFi is pretty easy. Every once in a while I have to turn the WiFi slider off and back on to get it to connect, but it hasn’t been a big deal. The app is actually pretty decent. It’s very easy to transfer saved pictures to my iPad photo library and delete the ones I don’t want. It also records video, although I don’t really use that for what I’m doing. You can adjust resolution, brightness/contrast, saturation and RGB in the app. Once I found settings I liked, I left them alone. The picture quality is surprisingly good for something this inexpensive. My problem is trying to take repeatable pictures of my own scalp. I feel like I need more hands. 😂 I need a mirror to see where the microscope is on my head, I need to watch my iPad screen, hold the microscope still and then either tap the screen or press the picture button. Any tiny movement and I’ve lost the exact spot I was trying to photograph. Finding that same exact spot again days or weeks later is even harder when you don’t have a freckle, mole or some other landmark to go by. I thought tracking the same hair follicles over time would be easier than it actually is. It’s a PITA. I also don’t mess with the zoom or brightness on the microscope much. The zoom goes from 50X-1000X, but there aren’t any notches or markings that let me know exactly where I had it before. For comparison pictures I want everything to stay as consistent as possible, so once I get something set the way I want it, I basically don’t touch it. For what I specifically bought it for, it hasn’t really worked. But that’s more about trying to take repeatable pictures of my own scalp than the microscope itself. It takes great pictures, the app works well enough, and for the price I think it’s a bargain.
