Can it be used for spitting sunflower seeds?

Yes and no. The funnel top is removable which would make it functional for using it for sunflower seeds. The funnel top has a narrow bottom which would not drain the seeds but you could modify the bottom to make it work for you if your handy and wish to have a more secure top.Hope this helps, Kristy.....

Now i have to ask. all ive been spittin in is bottles. do mudjugs get a smell to them after being spit in alot?.

I have not had that issue with mine...remember though, its not going to hold what you can in a 16oz bottle...I also rinse my everytime I empty it and was it once a month in the dishwasher..
