VANTRUE 13.12ft Type-C OBD Hardwire Kit with LED Screen for All DashCams

Works perfect in 2018 Toyota rav4. Parking features work with vantrue s1 pro camera. Very easy and clean install.

Let me start by saying this: I saw someone else's review where they said that their single problem with the product is that they have to manually shut off the camera and that they thought that it would collectively shut down when they shut off the vehicle... Ummmmm! Then you just wasted $30 bucks when all you needed was the cigarette lighter plug which was already provided in the original packaging... The WHOLE POINT of this accessory is to plug in your camera and for it to stay on. It's the hardwire ALTERNATIVE to having to remove fuses, hoping you removed the right one and all the other rigamarole... With this, you just thread it through to make it inconspicuous, plug it into your ODB, connect it to your camera and YOU'RE ALL READY TO "DASH CAM" (is that a thing? WELP! I guess it is now). This product was a game changer, for me!!! Before I knew this was available, I was very hesitant to attempt to use the fuse hardwire method to install the N4 Pro. I'm pretty technologically inclined and know my way around electrical stuff, for the most part, but it's still my new SUV. I wasn't trying to mess any of the electrical settings up, fiddling with stuff... Yes, the fuse hardwire would have kept my ODB free and clear and the plug IS rather difficult to pull out if I DO need to use it, but that's MINOR compared to being able to have the 24/7 monitoring that's promised as one of the benefits of hardwiring. In short? I'm fully satisfied! Now, if I can just find out if that rear camera for the N5 is compatible with my N4 Pro and if it is, if it's compatible WITHOUT reducing the resolution and quality (2160) of my main camera!

I currently have it equipped for my Vanture N4 pro camera. The cable is long enough to reach right behind the rearview mirror, still have enough dangling next to my foot. Comes with the sticky part to attach to the side, but I don't that in case some day I decided to switch dashcams which may need a different OBD reader entirely, especially if it's not USB C entry. It has 3 voltage options, for my vehicle or dashcam, not sure which one, tends not to work well with the highest setting on. I'd have to bring it to the middle setting in order for my dashcam to operate while it's parked.

First let me say I am very picky about my suv and don’t like to do anything to it accept at the dealership but this was so simple I had it hooked up and tucked away within 10 mins. I used this for a Vantrue n4 pro. I recommend mounting the camera first to know how much slack you want to leave and work ur way backwards from there makes it much easier. Only con I have is the mount sticker is trash will definitely need to replace but for now I was able to tuck it all out of the way and not able to be seen. Also if u park in a high volume area adjust the sensitivity on your camera or it will deplete even a brand new battery I keep it on 12.4.

The wire from the OBD port to the control box is shorter than I would have preferred because it meant putting the control box in an awkward location at the top of the footwell where I cannot easily see the voltage, and yet it was not long enough to put the control box at the top of the door front pillar. Also, it apparently comes preset to shut off at 12.4V (to help avoid killing the battery while it is always on), but that was too high for my battery which was apparently less than 12.4V and, as a result, there was no power to the camera. I thought perhaps the camera was defective, but then I plugged it into the cigarette lighter cord that came with the camera and it worked fine. So I set the switch on the control box to 11.8V (which was made more difficult due to the location I was forced to install the control box) and it sent the power to the camera no problem. All in all, I am happy with it, but would have liked a bit more wire on both sides of the control box for more flexibility to select a useful/accessible location for the control box.

This works exactly as intended. Plenty of excess cable. The low voltage shut off and digital readout is a nice plus. I drive a Nissan Leaf so being able to monitor the 12-volt battery voltage is very important. If you know you know. This works great with my Vantrue 360 cam. Should work with any dash cam that uses USBC for power. Only thing that would be nice would be an option to set the exact voltage cut off instead of having to rely on three preset levels and an old school switch design. I'm sure there's room in the display box to add the necessary hardware. Highly recommend if you are looking for a super clean install.

Update: Auto shutoff doesn’t work My hybrid’s battery started dying after a few months of use and it led to a little more research after having to jumpstart my car a few times. It’s like what a few others said. It doesn’t shut off power when voltage dropped to below 12.4V. The dash cam is still on! Firstly, the OBD port is typically at the lower left below the wheel where you rest your foot, which makes cable routing just as nice as hardwiring. This took me less than 5 minutes to setup, including tucking the cable into trims. Other adapters on Amazon typically has a switch toggle between accessory (on while driving) and always on (cut off at 11.6V). Those can be problematic for hybrid/modern cars. ( See P.S) Instead, this Vantrue OBD adapter is always on, allowing you to select the voltage, it then cuts off power 5 minutes after it drops below the set cutoff. 12.4V: Close to ACC, since it’s easy for the voltage to fluctuate below it, triggering the shutdown. 12V: Around 50% drain, on my car and dashcam it’s 2 hours of low resolution recording or 1.5 days of collision detection (with quick boot) 11.6V: The battery is almost dead. You might only have one start left. I don’t use this. Sat in the car, parking mode triggered as expected. The12.4V and 12.0V to work exactly as advertised. It’s really nice that it shows the set voltage for a moment when the cutoff voltage is changed, giving you confidence that it’s set correctly. I typically leave it at 12.4V, turn it into 12V mode when I’m parked in a higher risk area. It’s also really nice to have a live reading of battery voltage because of this adapter. I think the $10+ premium is totally worth it, this is a much better product than the two mode OBD adapters. Small wishes for future versions: - Having the USB-C cable on top and OBD at the bottom probably makes more sense for most cars? - Bigger toggle switch so it’s easier to flip. - Only having metal pins for 4,5 and 16 so it’s dead sure that it doesn’t have ability read/write to the OBD port. P.S. In typical adapters, ACC detection relies on guessing the car’s on/off state through voltage fluctuations. That’s prone to errors and didn’t work on my hybrid. Tried a few other adapters before this, all had weird issues like the controller cutting off power in the middle of a drive or that it just kept drawing power after the car turned off.

It’s wonderful , all those using Vantrue dashcam must use this as it has many option for voltage regulation , best option to at 12 volts for maximise bty life and long duration of video .

This OBD hardwire cable is one of those accessories that makes owning a dash cam significantly easier. Installation took only a few minutes, with no need to modify vehicle wiring or search for fuse locations. The cable powers my Vantrue N5S reliably and allows me to use parking mode without worrying about draining the vehicle battery thanks to the built-in low-voltage protection. The LED display is a nice touch, providing quick visibility into the current settings. I especially appreciate the adjustable voltage protection options, which let me choose the level that best fits my vehicle and usage. Bought this for my Vantrue N5S dash cam system. Has drained the battery twice and left me stuck after work in the parking lot. Not because of an old battery. Car battery is in perfect condition and regularly maintained (charged) just like my other two cars. Have owned 22 vehicles, battery is not at fault. Have to shut the camera off when I get to work, so not able to use parking mode option. That’s disappointing. Spent $360.00 on NOCO GB70 Boost HD jump starter to have in my car to avoid getting stuck again. Have ordered and received second cable that I was going to use in my winter car. I will test this one and see I if I get a different result. The switch on this first one runs at a high temperature, is that normal? Very warm to the touch. Concerned of a fire hazard. Please let me know if this is normal or not. Update: after using the reset button on the camera the problem has gone away. Product is working normally.

Possibly from the -40° Temps in Northern Canada? *Thankfully I had purchased the OBD Hardwire kit when I bought dashcam (that was tucked away under my back seat and when I opened it to use after the standard 12v adapter failed, I realized the OBD Hardwire kit has a switch that cuts Dashcam power off when your vehicles battery drops to 12.4, 12.0 or 11.6 volts to prevent battery from draining if Dashcam is left on for Parking Mode) I am now using this Hardwire plug and am happy I bought this because I like it MUCH better than the standard 12v adapter. I did contact Vantrue customer support right away about the standard 12v adapter failing, and to my surprise they responded immediately and offered to replace the 12v Adapter when i explained what happened. Vantrue Customer Support has been Awesome, with Prompt replies & Hassle-Free warranty replacement for the charging cable! *Initially (and before I remembered I had bought the OBD Hardwire Kit stored under my back seat) I expected to wait forever to get a response and have a big hassle trying to get the 12v adapter replaced but was Pleasantly surprised when they wrote back later the same day and offered a quick replacement. Very happy I decided to go with Vantrue for my Dashcam. I feel much better knowing I have a Vantrue Dashcam recording as I drive. The image quality is awesome, Thankfully I've only needed to download videos (directly and easily) to my cell phone thru the built in wifi of Wildlife during my travels to show friends & family - and not actual accident videos. Several of the people I showed the videos to couldnt believe the image quality was so good. I researched many Dashcam brands, and Vantrue stood out in many reviews because of their Quality Products. When i unboxed the Dashcam, I was very happy to see the high-quality compinents in the box from the Cords to the window/dash mounts and Dashcam itself. Even the bags each piece was wrapped with inside the box wasnt just some cheaply made garbage. The OBD Hardwire Kit even came in a nice nice quality box and was packaged very well. You definitely know that you purchased a High-End, Quality product when unboxing everything! Vantrue clearly cares about Quality and their customer service! I'll say it again - HIGHLY RECOMMEND
