How do you turn them off and on?

Thank you for asking us. If you just want on/off control those lights, you can add on/off switch on the main power cable. If you want brightness dimming control, pls add a dimmer switch to control.

Will these work on a 24v system?

No, it works with DC12V system only.

What size gage wire? I ran 16awg on a 5amp breaker and the lights melted.

These are 12 volt DC lights not 120 Volt AC no wonder they melted

can I use existing on/off dimmer switch in my van?

should be able to, would recommend just getting the recommended dimmer switch . otherwise you have to turn on the dome lights also , seperate switch would allow individual lighting and being LED would be less strain on your Van battery . hope this helps . I have 8 of these in the toy hauler and they are great . have fun
