Big Girl Knits: 25 Big, Bold Projects Shaped for Real Women with Real Curves [Moreno, Jillian, Singer, Amy R.] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Big Girl Knits: 25 Big, Bold Projects Shaped for Real Women with Real Curves Review: Amazing instructions! - I knit for myself and 2 other friends. I am typically a size 6-8, but am very busty. My friends are in the "big girl sizing" so this has been so educational in so many ways. The author provides great details about planning for "boobs, belly, butt" that I can apply to myself as well. There is a page in here that is great for copying for each project; it allows me to take detailed measurements and craft a design. Each pattern is explained well and indicates best-for body shapes. The only drawback is the yarn information. This is not a new book, and I have found at least half of the yarns are no longer made. I wish there was a weight and yardage given instead of just the yarn name and number of skeins. I went online and used a yarn substitution tool to write down the weight of yarn and yards per skein so it makes planning easier. Otherwise the directions are wonderfully clear. Review: Great Fashion Tips, Lovely Patterns - I would classify myself as a beginning knitter, and very much a plus sized girl. I would also classify this book as fantastic. I've made the Yo! Ga Pants and Bombshell as well as the Boobalicious tank and all of them came out fantastically. I love the extra information in the front of the book about how to resize and adjust patterns as well as her classifications for the rounder body types. I have a large bust size and a belly problem but no butt so seeing the patterns that helped with that classified in such a way really helped me decide which patterns to make. The instructions were incredibly clear (especially for short rows) and I had no trouble even as a beginner following them. The only complaint I have is that several of the "boob girl" patterns are very short lengthwise, though it is very easy to lengthen them. Some of the yarns are no longer manufactured but the owner of my local yarn store easily helped me to locate equivalencies, and when he didn't know a quick check on Ravelry to see which yarns other people had used definitely helped. Overall the patterns helped me to be more adventurous with the clothing I wear and really helped me learn fitting in knitting. Very much recommend!

Great sizing info for all sizes
This is a great book to have on your self for reference to sizing and shaping garments for all sizes... Not just "big girls"! Takes knitter through process of taking measurements, choosing size, shaping (+\-) ease and making adjustments! Fun patterns but "More Big Girl Knits" book has better patterns in my opinion but having both books make a complete set!

The For Real, For Real of Plus Size Knitting
This book not only addresses knitting for the plus sized and very plus sized, but also the verbiage is hilarious. It addresses knitting with the specific issues of being a larger woman. It gives hints and tips about what is appropriate for us. It accommodates for adjustments if you have larger boobs, butt, or stomach. It is much more than just a pattern book. It ain't polite, it is honest. Knowing what I know about this book, I would have bought it even if I didn't like one of its patterns.

Excellent book
Fabulous and funny and REAL. Good-looking, well-written patterns, but it's not just a pattern book; it's a whole education in knitting and garment construction. Learn how to evaluate patterns, determine what suits you best, and modify - or reject! - anything that's not right for you. Every bit of information you can think of when knitting for a beautiful-but-larger body. Worth every penny.

Cute, flattering designs for plus-sized "girls"
This book is fantastic. It gives good explanations about what to accentuate and what to avoid in terms of plus-size knit wear. It describes how to make sure you get the right fit for your body type (boobs, belly, or butt). And it has patterns for really pretty fashions that will flatter -- and celebrate -- the plus-size figure. These are not straight up-and-down, boxy designs that you get in a lot of "full figure" knitting books. I think all of the patterns in the book are good! My favorites are the fitted tank top, the cherry-patterned "swing jacket" sweater, and the low-cut "wrap around" sweater, which is worthy of a good push-up bra (Lane Bryant sells some very nice full-figure push-up bras). This is not a book for wet-behind-the-ears beginners. Right now, I'm still practicing getting my knitting scarves to come out straight, so I would not attempt to make anything in the book without supervision. My next step will be to take a knitting class and use one of these patterns for my project. It will be helpful to have the instructor's advice. Oh -- one more plus! They use "real" plus-sized women as sweater models -- not size 10's masquerading as full-figured women.

Great Learning Material
After reading about the book on Ravelry, I had to purchase it. As a basically P shaped person, I'm all heavy on top and nothing down below. I've really struggled to figure out how to alter patterns to make them work. The book has a fantastically detailed tutorial on what to do that makes the purchase of this book worth what it costs and more. The way they walk you through each technique is what I definitely needed - detailed, technical and yet written in a way that its light in tone and interesting. You won't find any boring snippets in this book! I wasn't so keen on the patterns in the book - many would look odd on my shape, but I think they are useful visuals to illustrate what is talked about in the technique sections. I was also impressed with the designers, everyone from Shannon Okey to the woman behind White Lies Designs. I would totally recommend this book to anyone looking to knit who has fit issues with average clothing. Even if you're skinny, the techniques in this book stand to good use by anyone.

This book has big girl knits for real big girls. The first Patten in the book is around a 52" chest so if you were thinking 'oh it's another book that says big' you would be gladly wrong. The biggest criticism of this book seems to be that the models look too big in the clothes and the photos do not show the true potential of the garment but every girl in the book looks without fail beautiful, though sometimes the clothes do not look made for them, but, hold your breath, this is the point of the book. The book starts off with a wonderfully complete guide to changing patterns up or down to your size (making it useful for the less ample too) and goes on to explain quite simply and very clearly how to alter patterns, how to flatter a particular asset, how to sculpt patterns and how most importantly how to measure yourself properly. It's also really rather funny too.

Très bon livre. Les modèles sont variés et pour tous les goûts, les explications claires. A quand la traduction française ???
