Review: Brilliant for Tarantula/Reptile Keepers for Managing Feeder Foods - I bought this, not for catching spiders roaming around my house, but to take crickets out of their breeding pens to feed to my pet Tarantulas. It is absolutely brilliant and without exception, the best thing I have ever bought off desertcart (and I buy everything off desertcart)!! Keeping Tarantulas and reptiles is a hobby many, many people take part in and there are all kinds of accessories for feeding, decoration, housing etc. Even pens with tubes to keep crickets in, but nothinb and I mean NOTHING to use as a cricket collection device or to use when cleaning their pens. This is essential for the health and well-being of the crickets but also to make sure your feeder insects are as healthy as they can be for when it's their turn to be dinner. Lying in their own poop is no good for them and it certainly isn't good for your pet. Now this bug catcher means I can take all my crickets out of their pens, clean the pen out, refill food, water bowls and put clean 'hides' in (kitchen rolls or egg boxes unless it's a pen with tubes ie the 'cricket keeper) and then the crickets go back in. I can clean all their pens within half an hour now instead of the usual half a day and when I've finished, they're all chirruping away. When it's mealtime for my spiders or my daughter's geckos, we can take out several or just the one and put it into the relevant tank that our pets are in. Prior to this fantastic little gadget, I had to use tongs and you have to be damn quick catching those jumping crickets so inevitably they get squished and then are no good, unless their being fed to a spiderling. There is one other device I bought off desertcart which is great for catching single crickets and that's the 'Snapy insect catcher (yellow / red / green / blue) by Snapy', but this bug catcher is on another level!!! Awesome product. I've just ordered another one in case the one I have ever breaks. Despite my reason for buying this item, I did actually attempt use it to rescue a very plump looking house spider that, it's portly girth probably due to it feasting on escapee crickets that had outwitted my cat. On that occasion I was actually going to use it for its intended purpose, but the spider was so fat, I didn't even try for fear of its legs all coming off as it got sucked up the tube. The nozzle is removable so I could've taken it off to use it, but I used the old fashioned method before it bolted off back into the lounge. The catcher actually did arrive with a battery in the box and the catcher worked fine. If the suction is stronger with the 'Energiser Max batteries, my pets will be eating cricket mash!! Mmmm...tasty ๐ค. Review: Brilliant - Brilliant at catching spiders, flies, daddylonglegs, etc.

Brilliant for Tarantula/Reptile Keepers for Managing Feeder Foods
I bought this, not for catching spiders roaming around my house, but to take crickets out of their breeding pens to feed to my pet Tarantulas. Ideal for humane removal of smaller insects
Really pleased with this gadget for the purpose I initially wanted it for: humane removal of small flies from house. Switch on before aiming at the insect (as if you try and aim it at them first they'll likely fly away). Ideal for small flies/houseflies/small moths. I did try a wasp but he/she wasn't having any of it and I resorted to a glass and piece of cardboard. The suction can't be too powerful I guess otherwise it may kill the creature and defeat the object of a humane gadget. Once in the tube you can put the cover on but I found it quicker and easier just to put my hand over the top (depends if you are scared of creepy-crawlies). Then turn the suction off. The suction end pulls away from the tube easily so you can release the insect. If they've flown/crawled further along the tube just shake them gently out.

Much better than expected
I bought this after reading about a lot of slightly different options. I previously bought the grabber style and hated it. Could not tell if I had the spider, if it had dropped, or if it was harmed by the plastic ends. Gave up fast. I can't harm spiders, so there are now a lot happily living in corners and ceilings and with the autumn approaching, I d like a few less looking at me! This gadget does not harm the spider, I can see it in the tube happily spinning webs still and this design has the advantage of a tube that comes in 2, so it's easier to tip the spider out after catching as it's no too far for the spider to go. I have yet to be brave with a large spider, but so far this is a gadget that won't be going in a cupboard never used again. A battery comes with it which is good and the power seems just right to move the spider without harm with a new battery. Recommended.

It does the job but really it's about time someone invented something better.
We are on about our 3rd one of these either the sam make or similar. I vowed not to get another but the USB rechargeable ones have allowed wattage I think and so less power (not at all what a spider vacuum needs) plus uninspiring reviews. I did buy one of those open and close trigger operate brush ones and that is good to point but can't cope with spiders that aren't on a flat surface that you are at a right angle to. So, despite everything we bought another one. It was rather fortunate as the day after it arrived the biggest spider we have ever seen in any house we've been in was sitting menacingly on our wall like it owned the place. I would have taken a picture of it and the take down that we served on it but to be frank we were in panic mode. Thankfully the bug buster was rapidly assembled and having a fresh 9 volt battery (supplied even though the instructions say it isn't) it made short work of sucking up the huge beast which was then safely deposited outside (I was a bit worried that it was big enough to knock on the door to be let back in!). So, on usage it was fine but the fundamental faults in the basic design remain (see CONS below). PROS: Reasonable voice for a branded one I suppose. It did the job on a behemoth of a spider and I am thankful for that. It came with a battery despite what the instructions say. The extension tube is handy and will get used - trust me. CONS: To some extent all of these devices are overpriced due to the faults outlined below. They break - at some time, inevitably the battery cover which is never a good fit will break one of its securing prongs meaning the battery will hang down from its wires - annoying. The tubes are quiet fragile and are another point of weakness. Suction power is okay to start with drops off very quickly and more power would be welcome. Annoying to keep having to buy 9 volt batteries - please make a more powerful, reliable, USB rechargeable one. They don't have allow function to send the spiders packing once caught. This would avoid the necessary sapling to dislodge them which often accelerates the tubes/battery cover getting broken. The battery cover is a poor fit - how difficult is it to get this right? Have twist and lock system or something. OVERALL: when will an ex-Dyson engineer or two come up with a more powerful, stronger version that is well made, and also blows out the critters as well? (not at Dyson prices though please). A better solution is well overdue so get on Dragon's Den and get it sorted please. Btw the instructions give tips for catching flies, bees and wasps - good luck with that. Given the lack of alternatives currently I do recommend this in combination with a brush catcher but only because no one has yet improved upon it.
