I've ordered these before they're excellent security cameras

I've had my Arlo Essential XL camera running for five days now and I have been quite impressed with its capabilities and battery life. Unable to wire anything directly for power, and unwilling to plug anything in because I hate the look of that, I wanted something that would last for long periods of time on battery. This device has shown to do just that, using only about 1% of its charge per day. And that's with the camera being "armed" more than 90% of the time. Set up was also a breeze, and the alerts and picture quality are great.

Bought this on 9/20/25 and it kept having connection and battery charge issues every few months. It finally got to where we could not connect to it no matter what we tried. I had nothing to lose so I pulled the back cover and found water in it. This was supposed to be a factory sealed new unit….so why did it leak and fail. This was the first time I bought this model/style. The other cameras (battery accessible) models have had Zero problems in almost 2 years. This Essential XL didn’t make it 8 months. Arlo has been less than supportive to say the least with this camera. Very disappointed! I plan on swapping out all of my Arlo products as they fail with other Manufacturers. I have 12 cameras and 2 doorbell units between both houses and can say that they have been for the most part unreliable.

I up graded from my usual cameras. The battery does last longer, and the images are clearer. The WiFi receiver is not as strong as other Arlo cameras but I and still satisfied with my purchase.

I’ve had the cameras up for about a week to add to other arlos. Set up was easy and they synced with the app with no problem. I don’t have an old base station people mention. I wasn’t sure what to expect between the vine reviews that I give zero weight to and people complaining about things like it’s not hardwired (which you can buy but the whole point is the ease of installation and not being tied to a power source.) I have mine around the house and also mounted on trees. The battery remains at 94% and that’s even through a snowstorm and a very cold week. WiFi range is no problem. Picture clarity is very good. Motion detection could probably be a little better but tbd. It triggered once for a fox but I see more prints in the snow with no video. Overall I’m happy with them.

Ever since I had to “upgrade” to the newer app version the app itself is awful. You can fast forward thru a video anymore because it seldom works. This is a brand new camera and I honestly have had problems with it since day one. I had to reboot it every morning so it would capture images. When there is an animal in front of the camera it doesn’t record them and now it’s black and white during the daylight. Unable to return it at this point but I will probably return the other pro I just bought and find a new camera system. The essential generation 2 cameras are terrible. I have had the original cameras outside for years and have not had a problem with them. But this is the 2nd or 3rd 2nd gen camera I have had and they are worthless. Multiple emails and phone calls about this camera and frankly I don’t have time to worry about it anymore. Very disappointing. And now I’m stuck with two solar charges that hardly work. It could be a full day of sunshine and the camera still dies unless it is plugged in. Not very happy since I have 2 locations with Arlo and four cameras outside and two cameras at the other. You call auto med service and they are just reading off a script. Unhelpful and no resolution.
