Not just for CoF fans
This book is a joint collaboration between Gavin Badderley (Goth Chic, Dissecting Marilyn Manson and Lucifer Rising) and Danni Filth (Cradle of Filth) and as such is going to appeal first to fans of Badderley's previous books and/or the band. What you have is an A4 sized, 570+ page tome packed full of illustrations, annecdotes and hard facts about decadence and darkness through the ages. The quality of the pictures is very good throughout, with band photos (not just CoF), movie posters, album covers, paintings and more. The bulk of the text is written by Badderley, with boxes of thoughts and stories by Danni on most of the pages. This format works well for me and kept me interested and entertained throughout. And I learnt some things as well. The book is arranged into 10 chapters, all of which are named after a CoF cd. These look at such things as the femme fatale, Satanism, horror as entertainment, sex and drugs, the occult and much more. As far as I know, this is the first book to acknowledge the blurring of the boundaries between the Goth subculture and that of the Heavy Metal crowd? This is something that I have experienced myself as an HM fan from the 70s who got into 'Goth' Bands like the Sisters of Mercy, The Mission and the Fields of the Nephilim in the 80's and now sees the Gothic influence on doom metal as well as band like CoF. Goth fashions are now ubiquitous at HM gigs and teenagers, like my daughter, identify themselves as 'Goths' and HM fans, which didn't happen a lot in the 80s. I was always a metaller with Goth sensibilities (some things don't change?) So would someone who is not a CoF fan, enjoy this book? I think that any fan of Goth, horror and HM will find something of value in this book. There is a wealth of information contained within its covers. Worth the price for the pictures alone. For a CoF fan it is a must have. I can't fault it. It deserves to be massive as it is Badderley's best work so far.

It's called a Bible for a reason. It has everything revealed, like it or not.
Imagine world known fairytales and myths dissected and their creators and writers and their influence on cinematography examined under the magnification glass at the angle of morbid yet open-minded, from the perspective of dedicated fan and yet still objective. Now link all that to the history of Europe and look even closer at what was happening to the Northern lands most brilliant and most twisted minds. Now tie it all to the history and creative engine of one of the most notorious and popular metal band as main inspiration. Now adorn this tome with colorful illustrations of the bands art as well posters of books and movies. Then you'll have Gospel of Filth, a deep precise and smothered in mythology analysis of Cradle of Filth, with Dani Filth himself discussing personal and band's directions and attractions. Even if you are not the band's fan, this is a must have for a fan of gothic culture, horror literature and movies, literature history inquirers, metal music fans, and lovers of all things macabre, mysterious, erotic, and dark.

Black Metal Author
I have waited for this book for a very long time. I must be honest I am a disillusioned Cradle fan, not for their `selling out' as described by some but due to their decline in quality albums, while still good they are hit and miss now. HOWEVER! I was not unhappy with this book, in fact it is a star buy. If you are a Cradle fan then the larder is well stocked, if you are a Goth fan then you have more then a feast to chew on. Each page gives hours of internet searching information and brings you deeper and deeper into a dark world. I am the author of Burzum: Black Speech, and I must say I commend the author of `Gospel' for his more then detailed writing and his packed paragraphs. However, as an author I also like some criticism so I would say its flow is a little too flowery and one can get lost in its old style, however it is very educated (maybe too much for some). I also would one day like to write with Danni and I hope I do as good a job as this author. Price per page you get more then your moneys worth!!! Hammered with images and writing (of the smallest text) it is a huge tome! This truly is a Gospel of Filth.

A must-read
I initally bought this book because I am a devout Cradle of Filth fan but trust me when I say that this book is not limited to fans of the band! The Gospel is a well written study of all things dark and decadent; from bloodthirsty medieval history, 19th century gothic literature, satanism, horror movies, all the way up to the modern heavy metal phenomemon. Baddeley's text is well researched and informative whilst Dani's sidebars offer witty outlooks on several subjects and often come as a welcome distraction when the main text gets rather heavy and flowery which it unfortunatly does at times. Overall, The Gospel would appeal to anyone who has a fascination with the darker side of life. You'll learn more sitting with this book for half an hour than you could from days of internet research. A well informed and witty read, definitly a must-have for every dark soul out there!

If you want a book that has it all with a ton of color pictures on EVERY page, flavored history of darkness and the occult, and just mesmerizing writing, then look no further. The Gospel of Filth is without a doubt the most interesting book on anything gothic/dark/scary/occult/artistic/musical out there. I've yet to see any book richer than this one in terms of occult history, the development of black metal (and many other different forms of metal), darkness, and decadence all in the same book. There are a plethora of pictures that have remained unpublished until this book surfaced, and there's literally eye candy on every single page. Order this now! You won't be disappointed! Even for those who think they know it all on the above mentioned topics, you'll learn a lot more than you bargained for.......And that's what makes a stellar book!

Melhor do que eu imaginava, são inúmeras referências e notas que foram escritas para gerar um norte para pesquisas sobre assuntos relacionados as influências por trás da mente do Cradle of Filth e o material impresso e qualidade das fotos é muito bonito.
