I have used both, but I want to see where the cream goes and the tinted version blends in so well I don't even know if I applied evenly. This white version is perfect. It also has an extra plus in its UVA rating (PA++++ vs PA+++), even though the percentage of active ingredients are the same. I probably don't use the required 1/4 teaspoon when applying it to my face, so it goes on perfectly sheer without obvious white cast. I am Asian with relatively pale skin. So far after a week of daily application my skin is very calm, without any signs of breaking out. I have tried so many sunscreens and all of them broke me out after a few applications.
