## Questions & Answers

**Q: Hi, I live in quite a windy area - are these planters likely to blow over? Can you fix the greenhouse lid to the base or could they easily blow away?**
A: I have made holes, using an old screwdriver held over a gas cooker ring until red, to make hole near each corner; these are made just large enough to take 60cm green plant canes or anything else you can find, maybe metal would be stronger. The canes pushed thro the cover into the soil have kept the top in place for me. Do not try to drill a hole thro the plastic as this will crack the plastic as I have already found on smaller covers, so learnt my lesson. You could also drill two holes and use a bungee cord over the top of the cover to secure it. I do not have much space and find these planters can go against the walls and not obstruct. The small ones can be moved more easily and so I have stayed with these. A good suggestion by someone is to put tins filled with water under the legs to stop slugs climbing. I have some lettuce trays on an old plastic garden table and the slugs have managed to get up there; so I will use tins to stop the little blighter.s. Another clever idea, is filling the legs with gravel to prevent them blowing over. You could also put a strong metal screw eye into a wall/fence post and put a cable tie around two of the legs prevent blowing over or being pulled over by a child. I make two holes in the plastic cover and insert a cable tie to make a loop so that I can hang it on a screw, while it is off the base and for storage so that it does not get broken as they are quite fragile. Dont forget to cover lettuces etc with fleece to protect against cabbage white butterflies laying eggs on your plants. Some companion planting of small trailing nasturtiums ("fire bird"?) will be a distraction for cabbage whites, attractive and you can eat the plant leaves, flowers and seed pods. I have only been growing for 3 years in trays and pots. I started with salad bowl letter and wild rocket and 3 tomato plants. I did not have to buy lettuce and had very flavoursome tomatoes "costelluco fiorentino? which are ridged in appearance but although a did not get very many due to probably my inexperience, I will continue to grow as they have such a good taste and would recommend them. I have just bought a small heated propagator so I can sow some seeds early as I think the plants I bought were perhaps sown a little late. I have also bought a special soft plastic tomatoe greenhouse as I think tomatoes need as much heat as possible. Even with this great summer of 2019 it was not enough for my plants to have fruits and then ripen, at the moment 15 Oct. there are still some on the plants and I ripen them inside once they have turned reddish; and it seems to be working and I am not buying toms. at the moment to use in salads. An added benefit is as I have to water 2-3 times a day; my dog likes being out there with me while I potter about and gets extra ball catching sessions. I find it so relaxing, makes you forget your worries and just be in the moment watching the red kites flying overhead - its quality quiet time. Enjoyable, healthy and saves money.

**Q: hi can anyone tell me what size this is?**
A: 76cm long x 37cm deep x 66cm tall. The propagator lid to go with it adds a further 20cm to the height.

**Q: are these suitable for growing potatoes? thank-you**
A: Possibly only one potato could be accommodated to get a decent yield, we have onions and garlic growing at the moment for next year. Very pleased with the containers.

**Q: Would this be suitable for planting shrubs?**
A: With the right sort of compost I can't see why not.
One of mine has 2 rosemary bushes underplanted with violas all doing well.
Two others are against a fence with a honeyberry in each underplanted with herbs.
I hadn't thought about this but it would be a great way to grow small ericaceous stuff if you don't have the soil type for them?
Like all containers it is down to careful choice of compost and feed? Enjoy!

Superb Grow Table Planter: Easy to Use

*by M***K on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 March 2017*

I love this planter so much that I've now got 2 of them. I bought my first one last year and had some absolutely fantastic crops of lettuce - my best ever. We moved the planter into part shade which is better for lettuce than full sun and stood the legs inside tins filled with water so no slugs or snails could climb up - result was beautiful lettuce with no annoying holes in.TIP 1) When you get your planter, I advise manually drilling some holes into the bottom of the main section so that water can easily drain away. For some odd reason, the only drainage holes are in the legs which is not adequate as you could still have water sitting below that level. So first thing is to make some drainage holes.TIP 2) Second thing is you can make the table much more sturdy by filling the legs up. We used a combo of small stones and polystyrene to pack out the legs - something that won't rot down. Adding some weight to the legs makes it very stable and gale proof. Ours stood up to storm Doris just fine. It helps if you get it roughly in place before filling the legs as it can be pretty heavy afterwards.TIP 3) Get some wide tins or plant pots with no drainage holes and stand the legs in them. Fill up the tins/pots with water and now you have just proofed your planter against slugs/snails which are unable to swim across water to climb up the legs. We had an amazing lettuce harvest this way and the lettuce looked pristine. Just make sure the planter is not touching a wall at any point - you don't want slugs crawling up a wall and sliding into your planter. Slugs (as I discovered previously) can climb a long way to munch on their favourite food.I know some people have had damaged ones arrive which is not great but hopefully Amazon themselves are taking notice as my second one was packed carefully in a box. When I ordered my 2nd one, I crossed my fingers and it turned up unscathed in a box. I would order this again even if I had one arrive damaged because I think they're such great value for the size. And (as long as I order direct from Amazon) I know there is no problem returning items.I'll be growing carrots in my new one this year. I'd eventually like a 3rd for some herbs once I've saved some more pennies up. Happy gardening :)

    Bright and sturdy

This is my fourth purchase of these, first bought about 5 years ago. Have faded a little in the sun but still very useful and usable, ideal if growing space is limited and stamina is on the wane. Also used for bedding plants for a good display of colour, I love them!

    Great for small gardens

*by A***T on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 April 2019*

I bought a lime green one. I was delighted when it arrived, just perfect for my small garden. So please was I that I ordered a second one in lime green. I then tried to find the 'covers', eventually I found a stockist and bought two. Fine, they fit. I then went on to buy a third, but without the cover as I was spending too much money, but this time in the leaf green, which is darker. Again, happy with the product. Now having acquired enough compost etc. I shall over Easter plant up two, while using one of them complete with its cover to act as a cold frame for stuff I started growing on the windosills inside my house to harden them off before planting out early May. They appear robust and with luck I hope to get several years use out of these, if not more, as they seem to be made of the same stuff as some plastic chairs that I had. I needed covers as living not far from the sea we get extremely windy weather, even on hot sunny days. Very easy to move around when not filled, but I shall place them in situ before filling. As other reviews state, its probably better to fill the hollow legs (for drainage). I am using broken up polystyrene plus a layer across the bottom in order to save on expensive compost materials. If you are contemplating buying covers they do seem expensive but why spoil the ship for a ha'path of tar as they used to say. The covers have two ventilators situated on top of the lids, the handles simply click on quite easily, even with arthritic hands. I have only rated 4 stars because I cannot justify giving 5 stars for any product that I have not used for any length of time. One last thing, I am 5ft 6inches. I do have to bend over to use these as they are not waist height but it is a vast improvement on not having to bend down to reach the ground (which I cannot). These would be very suitable for someone that is in a wheelchair but wishes to garden as best they can.
