**Q: What kind of metal is this?**
A: I guess it's some sort of aluminium but in practice it seems highly absorbent of heat which means that if you put it over a burner (e.g. over a camp stove) it will actually reduce the effectiveness of the heat transfer to the pot and slow the boil time...It's designed for chem labs...not cooking
