Question 1

The title says 1tb but the product description says 1000gb, not 1024gb. is this a mistake in the description or not? is the disk 1000gb or 1024gb?

Technically 1000GB is 1TB. Giga and Tera are metric SI units which are defined in 1000s, multiples of 1024 have their own very similar notation GiB and TiB. Often the two are used interchangeably though and that's where confusion arises.

Physically there should be no problem installing the drive. Apple only support TRIM on their own SSDs but since OSX 10.10.4 you can enable TRIM for any SSD via the command line in Terminal. Without TRIM enabled your drive will gradually slow down. If you succeed in doing this you will notice a huge increase in performance. Don't forget, of course, you'll either need to do a Time Machine backup in order to restore your data and OS to the new drive once it's installed or clone your internal drive to the new SSD via a USB or Firewire SATA adapter. You could also install the EVO as a second drive by removing the SuperDrive and utilising it's space. I think there are adapter kits available to do this. Guides are available online. Hi you will need a USB to Sata cable/adapter to link your new SSD to your laptop similar to this although there are many different ones on Amazon :- https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HJZJI84/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and some software to do the actual cloning, Samsung normal include some software for cloning and monitoring their SSDs called Samsung Magician and Data Migration, if they haven't been provided on a CD with the SSD, there should be some instructions on where to download or use this :-  https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools/. I more often than not use Easeus ToDo Backup to clone my disks to a new SSD (make sure you use the free home edition :- https://www.easeus.com/backup-software/tb-free.html - Hopefully you should be OK now :o)

An earlier answer suggests you need to install the new drive and then install windows. Probably not true.

I recently upgraded two laptops to use a Samsung SSD instead of an HDD. I bought a simple USB to SATA connector to connect the new drive to the computer. I then ran the Samsung software that cloned the existing drive to the new SSD. Then replaced old with new, pressed the big red button, and it booted with all data intact. Just a lot faster!
