What kind of wood is this table made of?

Don't know for sure, but it is soft wood. It easily can scratch and show scuffs.

What is the measurement of the widest space between legs? I have a bench already and want to make sure it will slide under the table.

The full width is 4' x 3 1/2 ". My bench is 3' x 11". Has wiggle room. =-)
