What is the Trigger for ?

The trigger is to release the roller, &the knob is to release the paint brush.

Will this fit any size roller ?

Hi Danielle, No, it will not take any roller, only the mini roller it comes with. The included mini roller will accept any 1/4” (6mm) core roller roller covers. Any brand, size or type. Good luck with your project! Garth

Will this work with preserver on the back of an 8' shed if the shed is 6" away from the fence and you can only get to the shed from one side?

You are only buying the top piece which attaches to a pole (also available) which will hold the brush. The roller works well but the claws of the top piece are not wide enough to hold a large brush ( the sort you would do a fence with) but a smaller / medium brush will work fine. The top piece can be rotated to different positions.

Will this hold a purdy cutting in brush?

It should do! Unless the handle is ridiculously wide or something, it should hold pretty much any brush so long as the widest part doesn't exceed an inch and a half (which would be pretty wide). There's a screw-down vice grip that holds the brush in the position of your choosing, so it's only the width you need worry about.
