This makes bullet shaped ice cubes amazingly fast ... about 9 cubes every 6-10 minutes or so. The holding compartment is not refrigerated so the cubes will eventually melt. The melt water is collected and recycled into the next batch of ice in a continuous process. The process is stopped when the ice bucket reaches a maximum level. This works extremely well, but the ice container is very small and will fill only about a 16oz glass full. While the claim of "26# per day" is probably accurate, you have to be there to empty the tray every time it gets full (and maybe every 30 minutes or so throughout the night!). As such, don't expect to be able to fill your big ice cooler unless you're prepared to catch and store the ice as its being made. When the ice bucket is full, the machine cycles on and off only rarely so the small amount of fan/compressor noise is tolerable. Be patient when you receive it as it must sit unplugged for 24 hours after shipping. ************* BUT THEN IT FAILED********************* AFTER ONLY ONE MONTH ************** I called their service and they picked up the defective unit by Fed Ex. at no cost to me. It has been over a month now since they received it. They sent me an update saying nothing more than "PLEASE WAIT" I'm tired of waiting. I want a refund NOW **************I finally received a replacement **************************************************** After one month, the replacement unit failed in exactly the same way the first one did: tiny plastic parts on the ends that hold on the ice scoop break off. I disassembled the machine and used my 3D printer to fabricate beefed up end clamps for the scoop. Its been working fine now. I recommend this ice maker if you have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and have the machine and skills to design and print 3D replacement parts that actually work.

I have to be completely honest and I admit that this is a harsh review. . . I am not impressed. For context, please let me explain my use case and where I feel this ice maker fails: To increase their longevity, save wear and tear on the compressor and water pump, and also to discourage mold growth and mildew, I prefer not to run countertop ice makers continuously. For fire safety, I also prefer not to leave them running unattended. Instead, for the reasons mentioned, I run them for only one day twice per month (every two weeks) followed by sanitizing and then I let them air dry until the next use. I run multiple nugget ice makers at the same time and then bag the ice from each full basket and put the bag in the freezer. I take it out later and tap the bag gently on both sides several times with a small flat mallet to loosen the ice nuggets and keep them separated. I then collect all of the frozen ice nuggets into commercial ice bags and make several bags of nugget ice just like what you would buy in the store. Because I have several nugget ice makers, I can get it all (2 weeks worth) done in one day. The ice from this Silonn nugget ice maker (model SLIM43B-US) is crumbly, ill-formed, and only partially frozen. It has a softer consistency and there is a significant amount of what I call debris -- broken bits, slush, and irregular shaped pebbles. This type of ice does not lend itself to bagging and storing as it is so wet that it melts together and forms big lumps (rocks) in the freezer and loses its nugget shape, what little there is of it. This makes it nearly impossible to store for later (collect, bag and then freeze). I also noticed that the ice melts rapidly when a beverage is poured over it, instantly watering down the drink. The design of this ice maker sacrifices the quality of the ice in favor of the production speed. It rapidly and continually spits out soft, wet bits of ice. This completely defeats the purpose of buying a “nugget” ice maker. Other, cheaper nugget ice makers sold here on Amazon make better ice -- consistently well-formed, evenly shaped, firmly frozen nugget ice without debris (bits and pebbles) in the mix. This ice maker might work fine for someone who just wants to have ice ready on the counter and plans to scoop it right into the glass and then pour a beverage over it. Personally, however, I am disappointed in the performance for the price. You might be too. Other notes: The entire machine is made of cheap flimsy plastic and will eventually crack from age and stress. I don’t think it is built for longevity. One accidental drop on the floor of the ice basket or the water tank and it will likely be cracked or chipped. Due to the cheap all plastic housing, the ice is not kept insulated like other ice makers. This means that water condenses on the outside of the water tank and is constantly dripping down the sides when in use. This ice maker automatically runs a defrost clean cycle after 4.5 hours of continual use. This means it flushes tank water through all of the metal parts that freeze the water to make ice -- the auger and the extruder holes that form and release the ice nuggets. The warm water flushing through the machine brings the temperature down of all of the cold mechanical freezing parts. Water also pours down the ice basket like a waterfall. This effectively interrupts the ice making cycle and the mechanical parts have to reach a chilled state all over again. This interrupts the ice making process for about another hour while the machine recovers and begins starts making ice well again. Until it fully recovers, it rapidly spits out wet malformed bits all over the ice in the ice basket. This is a hindrance not a feature. For context, other nugget ice makers only run an automatic cleaning/defrosting cycle when a freeze up is detected -- the auger struggles to turn, the thermostat detects the temp has dropped too low, or the ice extruder holes freeze up and the ice is stuck. It will then flush the machine to defrost before restarting the ice making process. The fan is on the side of the ice maker right next to the water tank and ice basket rather than on the back like every other ice maker I have ever owned. This hot air blows right next to the water and ice basket. This is a poor design choice IMO. The ice is not kept insulated like other ice makers. This means that water condenses on the outside of the machine. Water is constantly dripping down the sides of the water tank when in use. As far as aesthetics, if not using the timer functions, there is always a big pointless double zero “OO” on the display. There is nothing sleek about this ice maker. It looks and feels cheap. There are much better ice makers here on Amazon that sell for much less. Do yourself a favor and invest in one of those instead.

At just under $90, the Silonn Countertop Ice Maker is about the least expensive small standalone ice maker on the market. There are several different manufacturers that make nearly identical units that produce 9 ice "cubes" every 6 minutes or 26 lbs/day. What are you going to do with a large, perfectly functioning 5 year old Samsung refrigerator whose iceman can't be repaired or even replaced? Buy a standalone ice maker, of course. Problem is, all of these make two sizes (small and smaller) of blunted bulled shaped "pellets" that have a huge depression in the center left over from the spout that makes each individual pellet. The small size of these plus the large depression in the center makes them melt super fast. So fast that they are almost useless unless you fill a glass with them, and then you have the problem of a highly diluted drink. The unit is advertised as being very quiet, "similar to a refrigerator". Well, that's true for part of the continuous operation cycle, but during other parts, it is quite loud and bothersome. I give this 2 stars because it does make some sort of ice pellets, but they aren't worth very much, and do not cool nearly as well as ice cubes from the original Samsung refrigerator's icemaker or those from an old-fashioned ice cube tray. ** One month later I reduced the ranking to 1 star. The ice pellets are already partially melted by the time they hit the collection basket. When I move them into my refrigerator’s freezer, they are so wet that freeze into a solid clump of pellets. Freezer on the Silonn is simply not cold enough. This unit is basically worthless and I would return it if I could. DO NOT BUY. JM Tepper

As I said below, my first unit failed after six months, but they replaced it quickly. Replacement unit also failed after six months. I'm not even going to try to get it replaced. It's great when it works, but at this point its just good money after bad. I was a little skeptical at first, but I ended up loving this little gizmo. Filled with filtered water it provides lots and lots of ice cubes. I normally empty the basket into a bin in the freezer and I always have lots of ice. I took a star off because it quit working after six months. It looks like one of the IR sensors fried. So, not good, but this was pretty much made up for by the incredibly good customer service I received from Silonn US. I reported the failure and requested replacement under warranty. I got a response the same day asking for a short video of the failure. Sent the video. Next day got an email saying the unit would be replaced. They provided a free shipping label. As soon as they received the old unit they sent a new one. 15 days after the initial failure I had a new machine. I don't think I've ever received this good customer service before. I just hope this one lasts longer.

Very excited about this product, arrived with everything seeming like it would be a great purchase. However the instructions are not at all clear or necessarily accurate. It kept talking about particular lights and flashing lights etc. none of which were evident at all. And the "white light" never appeared, only a light blue light. It was definitely not white. As far as the red green and blue other lights it mentions, none of them ever showed up. After we made the first batch, we really enjoyed the ice and decided it was worth continuing to use even with or without the lights. So on our second day we decided to make another batch and the machine just sits there running and running and running and has not made ice. At one point when we pressed the button to make ice, instead the machine on its own decided to go into cleaning mode. Very frustrated and disappointed. Have returned it. Hope we have no issues. If we do I will update this review.

Not a good choice, sadly. This machine worked for a little under 3 months so there's that, I guess. Didn't love it when it did work, ice bucket sits in the water rather than on top and consequently all sticks together while it melts in said water. The ice that sits on top is nice enough, lol. Pay attention to the fact that the return/replace warranty is only 30 days.

Let’s start with the beginning. This is not chewable ice. This is not fully frozen ice, big difference. This worked for 1 day and the second day it struggled to half freeze any ice as seen in the video. Very disappointed in the product. I went with the mid tier model for the sole reason I didn’t want a piece of junk.

I bought this machine a little over two months ago. Loved it. Cleaned it accordingly, and etc. two days ago it started making a nasty grinding noise, the water started freezing over the top so the ice couldn’t fall correctly, cleaned again, I’m so disappointed. I bought this bc of the high reviews and it did the same thing my last one did in the same amount of time.

I like the machine, but it has to make bigger ice cubes then it does.

Almost lasted 2 years and just died. Ordered a different model this time. I guess for the price that's all you can expect. All these cheaper ice makers have the same "bucket, acorn ice, flipper" mechanism and electronics so expect it to work but just for a while. Worked great...hard to clean, but it won't make a difference on longevity.
