There is a knack to it
When I first got this I was so disappointed as the sand was all clumped and stuck together in one half of the circle but realised it was easily fixable by shaking and turning it a couple of times until all the sand was free. Now, there is a knack to this and I have found what works for me is flipping it like you flip a record to play the other side. Rotating it did NOT work for me as all the bubbles moved to the side and to the top, meaning all the sand just fell to the bottom. Flipping it and giving it a bit of movement to evenly distribute the bubbles works like a treat. This does not work every time as sand + bubbles = unpredictable but more often than not I get it right and its so calming and pretty to watch. The impliment used to let more air in/out is not included but I dont recall seeing anywhere in the description that it was included but I think it should be. I think the 12 inch version is the perfect size for this kind of thing.

Great gift I can really recommend this.
What a HIT this was, my 12 year old Grand daughter loves her and am now having to order one for my 16 year old Grandson. Its really great, a relaxing if somewhat mesmerising thing to watch before sleep, very calming I think, I can highly recommend this.

some flow some dont
I bought two of these, a blue one and a blue/ white. one is a present. I think it might be the luck of the draw whether it flows properly. The blue flows lovely but the other one is hit n miss. I havent returned it because it sort of works with a lot of shaking or tipping it side ways. I dont think this would be very sturdy if bought for a child. Having said all this, it is still good to watch, once it starts to flow and does make different design everytime. helps you relax while watching the sand flow. I would even consider buying another.

Dissapointed. Returned.
Arthink moving sand art picture. Bought the blue one, looked lovely but then failed to impress. Lots of trapped sand in bubbles refusing to fall unless item was moved. Disappointed as i had hoped it would have been good for my dad who has alzeimers. Sent it back.

Major design flaw
Not sure what the problem is but rather than a slow trickle of sand producing peaks and troughs over a period of time, just get a sudden drop. It seems there isn't enough of whatever the bubbles are made of to support the weight of the sand. We had a one many years ago that got broken and I wanted to replace it, but, sadly this does not fit the bill.

das Sandbild habe ich verschenkt. Es steht auf einem Schreibtisch und erfreut den Beschenkten regelmäßig.

I thought it would flow better. At times the sand won’t even flow. Have to roll it one way or another to get sand moving. Not totally disappointed but not thrilled either.

I have 2 of these (different sizes, colors, brands) and this one is my favorite. It makes stunning sand art each time. I haven't timed how long it takes. It's not quick or slow, just kind of flows down. I do wish it had a holder so I could just turn it without having to take it our and flip it. But no big deal. I plan to bring it to work for my desk.

My parents had one of these when I was growing up. I ordered this for my office, when I got it we started playing with it at home and we loved it so much we ordered one for home too. It was $20 when I bought it, not sure I’d spring for one at $35 (current price at the time of this review).

Updated: six months later the water is drying out :( There are just too many bubbles for this to work at all. Part of it might be that we live at altitude (5,000ft), so the bubbles expanded a bit. Disappointing.
