Sour Cream Powder, 1lb.

A pleasant surprise. I use powdered and condensed milk and recently ordered powdered egg and powdered butter for use in my camper in case I don't get a chance to shop before Saturday morning on a last-minute weekend trip. The egg was as expected, butter a disappointment, but I threw this on just for yucks and it's actually pretty damn good. Strongly recommend for anyone buying food stores or even as a back-up for the regular kitchen. It's still powdered/reconstituted but far better than I ever expected for taste and consistency.

I dehydrate my own backpacking food, but this is one thing I buy. My trip mates were skeptical at first, but it's an amazing addition to taco night, breakfast burritos, etc. on the trail. I'll bring it on every trip now - what a luxury. It's actually rich and creamy tasting - not lumpy or grainy.

I bought this along with butter powder and used them both in my dehydrated meals for backpacking, learned that I did't need such a big bag of this Sour Cream and luckily my wife found a use for it in her cooking to burn through it. It's powdered sour cream if you have a use for it and need a lot then this is good stuff.

This is fine for baking but it lacks in matching the taste of sour cream for dips or topping. Nice to have as a backup for baking.

I have used it to make baked items and it has definitely added to the taste and texture. It may not be the best thing to use in the uncooked form as it has a rather "chalky" taste but after baking it was excellent.Will definitely order again.

I don't use sour cream often enough to justify buying and throwing out the container once it passes its "use by date." I thought having powdered sour cream in the house would solve this problem. Unfortunately, this product is disgusting. I whipped it up according to directions and it tasted like dust. I let it sit in the fridge and mellow, and it tasted like dust. I added lemon juice to it to up the "sour" factor and it still tasted like dust. The bowl was dumped before dinner, and the rest of the bag was thrown out that same night. A total waste of good money. I'd rather buy and throw out leftover store-bought sour cream.

I purchased this to use in my backpacking meals. I dehydrate my meal and then add the Sour Cream powder. When rehydrating out in the field it gives a nice sour cream taste. I use it for dehydrated Beef Stroganoff, Aztec Chicken stew and ground beef with vegatables. My wife now uses it in some of her recipes.

I bought this with the idea that maybe I could use it on baked potatoes rather than keeping (and wasting half of) containers of fresh sour cream around. It mixes fine according to the directions on the bag and has decent texture - not as creamy as the real thing, but not bad. The problem comes in with the after-taste. It has a hint of the sour cream flavor, but there is this after-taste that is similar to what powdered milk tastes like. And the after-taste is strong enough that I can't believe that it wouldn't be evident in baked goods as well. I've bought Barry Farm Cheddar Cheese powder and liked it. The powdered Sour Cream just doesn't make it. And I wish that it did.
