Is it sturdy while using the touch screen when tablet/ipad is placed portrait potition?

Yes it's very stable as it has a wide base, my tab S9 Ultra in Portrait mode was fine, but obviously like a crane don't overstretch the legs or it will become unstable.

Can the screws be adjusted for tightness?

I don’t think so. I purchased 2 of these stands and they are absolutely fantastic quality. They are a little stiff to start with but they become easier to move with use. I don’t see any need to tighten any screws; in fact, there are no visible screws to tighten.

Would this be stable enough to hold a Macbook Air 13.3"?
