Review: You won't regret reading this - A fantastic book that makes you look at the 'dramas' of life from a different angle. I was given a hard copy of the book and found it so helpful I bought it on Kindle as well so I could dip in and out of it wherever I was. It's a very readable book; I read one chapter at a time, then let the message sink in and change how I perceive the 'dramas' in my life, and then I go back and read it through as a whole. It has been one of the most helpful books I've read in a long time. Review: Very enjoyable and full of useful advice and guidance - Very enjoyable and full of useful advice and guidance. Not so sure about all the ancient Chinese philosophy though. Recommended.

One of the best spirituality books I have ever read
This is one of the best spirituality books I have ever read - Gerad explains how we all are slaves to our minds and emotions and if we step back and watch it all happening from a place of peace (the top of the pendulum) we can finally find home. I love the analogy that our mood swings are connected to nature - also this book has taught me to start listening to my body and treat it with respect - this is a book to read many times !

All well in theory but ...
All very interesting but in the end I find it difficult to translate what the author is saying into real world day to day practicality. Maybe some examples of how to apply the lessons learnt by patients talking to a therapist into our busy daily lives would have been helpful. Or maybe it's just me.

Very good indeed.
This is a great book with sagely advice. The hardest bit though will always be remembering to put the theory into practice. To use Kate's analogy, when the emotional pendulum is swinging, no matter how aware you are, it's still difficult to see through the fog of your conditioning!

Recycled philosophy and new age hokum
Gerad Kite's little book is a bizarre ramble through a mish mash of self help tropes and recycled philosophies. Now in itself that wouldn't be such a terrible thing as there are no shortage of philosophical views and advice that are worth recycling. Somehow Gerad has managed to wrap it up in a collection of odd support advice, ill thought out analogies and metaphors that sometimes don't even match reality and case studies from his practice that seem to contribute little to what he has to say. A few trivial examples illustrate how little research went into his book. He at a late point in the book refers to summer as a time when "warmth celebrates the gift of our humanity" because "summer [is a] time when we are closer to the sun" - wrong, just plain wrong and ten seconds on google would have told him otherwise or invents his own theories that have no foundation in reality "The law of opposites gives rise to time and is the mechanism that creates and maintains the physical universe"!. Elsewhere he is self contradictory for example he tells us that "it is only when we live through our senses as we did as children that we return to the natural world" even though only a few pages earlier he was trying to tell us that Taoist philosophy shows that we all live through only our senses. There are facile tautologies in here, for example "love is love" - undeniably true but facile, fatuous, tautological and above all else meaningless. At one point he disappears into a bizarre aside linking times of the day to different organs in the body and talks about imbalances between the "elements", if the latest information you had on the body was something written by Galen two thousand years ago that would be be forgivable to think that. To write it in a book and try to pass it off to others as useful now is just embarrassing. He also seems to have an inflated opinion of his own work. At one point we are told that "What I have asked you to do in this book is radical" when the most novel and radical suggestion he had was that people should make a cardboard pendulum to indicate their own moods. It is only close to the end of the book that we find the reason underlying his book. When talking about his life in California he describes it as "a hotbed of new age thinking, alternative ideas, therapies and discussion groups". It's difficult not to read that and think of the Douglas Adam's description that Californian's starting a new religion is just their way of saying hello. Perhaps the only part of the book I agreed with was right at the end where he talks of "a plane journey. You get off the plane and you're in a completely different place and yet you haven't actually gone anywhere. You've just been sitting in your seat doing nothing". That's a fairly good description of Gerad's book - "just sitting in your seat doing nothing".

I like my self help books to be clear and direct
A bit too wooly for my taste. I like my self help books to be clear and direct. But other tastes might love it.

This book, at first, made me anxious and hesitant, but I was still very intrigued. As I continued to read I found a since of hope in being okay at home in my self. I will definately re-read so that I can grasp all concepts. Highly recommend!!

I ordered the hardcover and somehow the item switched back to the Kindle version... not sure if I can change this or not, but I do not have a Kindle or want a Kindle version. I would very much like the Hardcover.

I don't usually review books as I read so many but this one is definitely worth my time and your attention. After reading many many books on self improvement, this has made my top 3. As a recovering alcoholic, I have been searching for a way to cease the endless banter full of regret and remorse that is now in the past yet is in my mind constantly. This book helped show me that is in fact just "in my mind". This book is easy to understand and combines several topics that many self help books do individually, sometimes being a little long winded and repetitive. Also as a bonus, this book has me commencing research into Taoism. Thank you! Most helpful. (Insert smiley face)!
