I thought that the larger handles would make them easier for her to hold. For her, the wider handles were more confusing. Whether the silverware has wide handles or the normal ones, the person using them has to know how to orient the end of the utensil. I found that, for my mother, the thickness of the handle didn't matter much. We decided to keep the set in case they might be useful later, but they didn't help my mother much at this time. I can see where this set would be helpful for someone that had severe arthritis and was having difficulty holding silverware with smaller handles. The set would also be useful for someone that could use the non-slip handles. They would be much easier to hold on to. The can also be bent for people that cannot use silverware in the normal manner.
