Review: Made a viral video using its principles in the first 5 days of having it - I'm not lying, I got the book and it's very concise but deeply insightful. I started using its principles in my writing and videos and literally went viral after 5 days of reading the book. This works, for real. It's a very fun read too: he explains the principles and then provides examples to showcase. One of my favorite things is that its teachings are data-backed and the results of tireless experimentation. Great book for someone who's starting in copywriting, like me. Thanks. Review: Proven in my website work - Outstanding read. Amazing how a book from the 1920s is totally relevant again with respect to how websites are put together.

Informative, but hard to understand
Explains a lot about advertising, but the language it uses and the way the book is written makes it hard to understand on the first read. Had to use ChatGPT to explain some concepts.

Strategic knowledge on advertising in all fields
Great quick read to help you better understand advertising from the shoes of the people who have had great success in it. This book gives you real life scenarios and tests you can implement in your own research.

Good but hard to read
The main points of the book are solid but getting through it was difficult for me. It was written in 1923 and as someone who used to not be a daily reader, the language and style of writing made it hard to follow. Had to re-read sentences constantly. Maybe it’s bc English isn’t my first language. But I’ve been here for 20 years so can’t be the main factor

no fluff
Gotta reread and keep as a reference, now there are some things in here that are left to question since it was written so long ago. Nevertheless majority of the principles are to be applied

Difficult to Read
The font is not the average Times New Roman or Calibri or something similar that would make it easy to read through the small flat less than a 100 page read. The font is small and narrow which makes it irritating especially for a glasses user like myself.

You'll find this book recommended on most marketing books lists
Highly recommended to all marketers—I preferred reading the version with his biography 'my life in advertising' as it was more interesting; otherwise it's a short read, up there with 'Obvious Adams', which is also recommended by Ogilvy and others as a mental model. maybe if youre a ogilvy fan read his AGA cooker sales manual which can be found online in the public domain and is also quite interesting from a strategy viewpoint. Another often-recommended book of this likeness is Reality in Advertising by Rosser Reeves ( at one point Ogilvy's brother-in-law), Ogilvy's books and Drayton Birds Commonsense Direct Response. It comes with a lot of lore; it's recommended by David Ogilvy to read 7 times, John Carlton read it over 15 times supposedly which helped him land a job with Jay Abraham who supposedly read it 50x etc

The GOAT
To the point, actionable, and a quick read. Unlike most business books, this one is not packed with filler content. Crushed it in a morning and was already implementing it into my business by that afternoon. Saw a nice bump in my Facebook ads and email campaigns using the concepts in this book.

Sometimes difficult to understand
I want to clarify first of all that this is completely personal preference, but it was written close to a century ago and is written in a way we don’t really speak anymore. I call it Shakespeare speak, like ‘thou art’ etc. It doesn’t actually say that but you get the point. I didn’t enjoy the read, but that’s because I like being spoken to like I’m thick when it comes to books. I like when the writer takes complex topics and explains it on a way that is so easy to understand, a five year old could get it. This book doesn’t do that. Some of the principles are outdated, but other than that it’s a fairly solid book.
