U32 Shadow™ 240GB External USB 3.0 Portable Solid State Drive SSD

Transfer speeds are what I expect, the only issue is that it doesn't work on Mac, which I assume requires a driver on the Mac side or reformatting the SSD to be FAT32 based.

I use this for post processing images from photo shoots with Adobe Lightroom. As long as I'm transferring images between fast devices (like this device and an SD card), transfers are very fast, but if I'm dealing with one of my hard disks, having the Shadow in the circuit doesn't speed up the process because a big bottleneck is with the hard disk. Also, I didn't realize that the long latency times involved, for example, in asking Lightroom to convert from raw to JPEG was due to the processing time involved in the conversion, and has nothing to do with how fast the image is transferred to the Shadow. So I saw no increase in tasks like that. But I was amazed by just how big 240 GB is. I can store dozens of photo shoots involving raw+JPEG on the Shadow. I suppose if you need to move large amounts of data between two physically disconnected systems, this is a convenient very reasonably priced sneaker-net, but unfortunately I never have to do that and so the main advantage of this unit is pretty much lost on me. Download my images from the camera to the Shadow is blinding fast, and that's really a nice convenience. I suppose that's an instance of a sneaker-net.

Very slow compared to other drives. 90MB writes. I got better speeds on a spinner. I should return this one for sure

Makes a huge difference in VM performance when using it as the VMDK location for VMware workstation 9.Also no spinning disk means I can carry them around much easier with the laptop (has VMware on it), without worrying about jarring it and potential head/platter ouchies

Bought this ssd to mirror my hard drive. It is simple to hook-up, setup and use. What more can you ask for. I will probably buy another for my other computers. Great little device!

I have been using this SSD for a month or so now and it works as advertised and expected, fast and reliable. I like the small factor and aluminum enclosing matching my MacBook Pro.

The U32 works well. I formatted it with a Mac and it works well with other Macs. Does not work with PCs, I assume due to the formatting.

This is an excellent external drive. I found it to be rugged, fast, and elegant. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a back up drive for their mac.
