I tried many times (firmly, lightly, flicking, etc) to create hair like strokes but they end up flat thick dashes. What am I doing wrong?

No. I went and looked at mine, and it says it is made in China. I still love this pencil, though. It's amazing, just about the best, if not THE best, eyebrow pencil I have tried, and I have tried many.
