ROAR, Revised Edition: Match Your Food and Fitness to Your Unique Female Physiology for Optimum Performance, Great Health, and a Strong Body for Life Review: Can’t put the book down - I just finished Roar by Dr. Stacy Sims, and it is incredible! This book is an absolute must-read for any woman looking to understand her body and optimize health, fitness, and performance—especially through different life stages, including menopause. Dr. Sims sheds light on how women’s bodies function differently from men’s and provides clear, practical strategies to stay fit and strong, no matter where you are in your journey. One of the most eye-opening sections is her advice on staying fit through menopause. Dr. Sims explains the hormonal changes that happen and how they impact muscle mass, fat distribution, and energy levels. She emphasizes the importance of: • Lifting Heavy Weights: Maintaining and building muscle is crucial, especially during menopause when muscle mass tends to decline. • Prioritizing Protein: Protein becomes even more important as we age to support muscle recovery and repair. • Interval Training: Incorporating high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to help boost metabolism and improve cardiovascular health. • Sleep and Recovery: She dives into how changing hormones can affect sleep and why prioritizing recovery is just as important as the workouts themselves. • Mindful Nutrition: Adjusting your diet to focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods that support hormone health and reduce inflammation is key. Her mantra, “women are not small men”, is both empowering and scientifically backed, making you feel truly in control of your fitness journey. Whether you’re in your 20s or navigating menopause, Roar equips you with the tools to optimize your workouts, balance your hormones, and feel stronger than ever. It’s a game-changer, and I highly recommend it to any woman wanting to stay active and healthy through every stage of life! Review: Excellent resource for women who train - Roar by Stacy Sims is a must-read if you want to understand women’s physiology and how it impacts performance, recovery, and long-term health. The book breaks down menstrual cycle phases, eating habits, and training adjustments in a way that’s practical and easy to apply. What I loved most is how comprehensive it is—there are tips on cold plunges, fasting, sample meals, and more. Whether you’re a competitive athlete or simply a woman who enjoys regular training, the insights here are invaluable. It’s not just about performing better now, but also about building a body that ages stronger and healthier.

Best book to understand female physiology for perimenopause and menopause even if you are not an athlete. Provides information regarding diet, supplements for active lifestyle.

Just ok
Tons of great information but in the end it wasn’t what I was looking for. I was hoping it would provide more specific guidance or formulas for determining macros and creating lifting programs. I joined a group instead and within a week I had all the information I needed, and two weeks in could see and feel measured success. I was mad i wasted time reading this book and watching videos without actionable steps.

Great read for woman
Great book about woman and fitness. Research on fitness has traditionally been done on male and female bodies are different! This book helped me to change the way I view fitness and eating for my body type.

Perfect for Female Athletes
While I am no athlete, I do try to workout regularly and improve my fitness and felt this book was so me much needed info. If you are reading for an entertaining story then this book is not for you, but if you want to know how to eat for better performance and how female hormones play into training then read this now! I felt that not every aspect applied to where I am now, but I have been applying many insights to my training and workouts. She says Lift Heavy and I’ve been working on that - it’s amazing the difference I’m feeling already by improving my nutrition during and after workouts as well as lifting heavier weights. I like the things I’m learning. This is a book to keep around for reference and great recipes as well as nutrition plans.
